    A more than solid start

I tried an HE blackguard after only buying a battle axe (I could only afford it after killing an aimless merchant for his 20ish gold) and a single phase door

Level 1 is 1-4. My BG finds a robe of resist cold (+5) and I think "That's ok" but I clear out the rest of the level and find 15 Pebbles of Flame (+2,+6) AND a Sling of Power (+6, +15). Between the two, they fire at 100+ damage.

Well then. Time to go down quicker than usual, but some food, light and various other util stuff would be nice to find. Maybe some CLW and more than 1 PD. But it gets better, soon there after, I find an unID'd scroll at 400'. I read it and the scroll of Deep Descent sends @ down to 650'

Obviously not worried - it's actually a great time for it. Nothing there scares me. Except...

Omens of Death haunt this place.

Okay, it's level 9. - probably just a pit of some sort.

All I see is a baby blue dragon. One Pebble removes it.

    Oh a stonefoot warrior
Let's practice a little hand-to-hand with my Lucerne Hammer (+5,+5) donated to me by Mughash earlier.

    "Welcome to level 12."
    Excellent.
    Run down a hallway.

    "There are superb treasures here"

Oh, snap, so not just an ant pit.

Check for Monsters with Seek Prey.
    Nothing impressive.
There's an unID'd blue potion over there.

    You feel more experienced.
    Welcome to level 13.
    Welcome to level 14.
    Welcome to level 15.
    Welcome to level 16.
    Welcome to level 17.
    Welcome to level 18.
    Welcome to level 19.
    Welcome to level 20.
    Welcome to level 21.
    Welcome to level 22.
    Welcome to level 23.
    Welcome to level 24.
    Welcome to level 25.
    Welcome to level 26.
    Welcome to level 27.
    Welcome to level 28.
    Welcome to level 29.
You can learn 5 more rituals.
You see no more Potions of Experience.

I really can dive a little deeper in the dungeon now...

I was waiting on the OOD Kavlax to breath on you and you die at the end there.

Oof, yeah my last one had some nice early luck, quick finds for decent wep/sling and a +3 boots of speed for a nice early start. Then old man willow, without free action, and die.

... which reminded me why I tend to scum around dlvl10 for FA before heading down, hah!

I wasn't even that deep. It was the chronically under-rated illusionist, who confuse, paralyze, blind, slow and rNether and show up pretty early.
