Two Great Hell Wyrms at Clvl 37 So I'm in this huge vault and I'm doing fine. I manage to kill Dwar and Garm, Guardian of Hel by poking in and out of granite walls they can't go through, smacking them, moving away, moving back to get stealth and a powerful blow and at my speed, half the time, not even get hit much. So then I'm traipsing along in a whirlwind of stealthy strikes when I run into THIS beast. Now, normally, I'm not very lucky. With these, I was. The first one I thought was an ancient red dragon so I hacked at it a few turns before realizing its hp weren't going anywhere and checked the messages. Lo! It's a Great Hell Wyrm. Well, I'm not dead yet, so I poke at it again and BAM I get a fatal injury and it's down to half HP. Well... from there, it took a while. It breathed fire on me twice and I had to use up several Healing potions. Once I got it low, it teleported out of the vault and I followed it. The first one was really hard, and I was taken down to 80 hp by its first breath attack. Then I run into ANOTHER one. And FIRST strike I get a fatal injury! WHOO! I repeated the prior maneuver of hacking away at it and following once it teleported. This time it summoned, but I dispatched its minions easily. Then I head back and run into a Jabberwock on the inside middle of the left half of the vault. XD Well, that one was extremely lucky. After luring it back to a wall, I got a fatal injury, then a fatal strike and instakilled it. Those things hit HARD though! Probably the four toughest enemies I've taken down so far... two Great Hell Wyrms, a Jabberwock and Garm, Guardian of Hel. Maybe I'm a newb, but I'm proud of this run. Also picked up four artifacts... Mittens of Paurnen, Hat of Thengol, Stabbity 'Tinythorn' and Hack-Axe of Balli Stonehand. Posted on 17.11.2005 04:19 Comments? I nearly died doing it, but it was awesome! >=) Anyway, what fun is it if I don't take risks SOMETIMES? To combine screenshots, just open up the .html file in Notepad or a similar text editor. Copy out whatever you're interested in and paste it inside the "pre" tags. Remember, you can apparently only have one pre tag per html file. It works easier if you set the text editor to not wrap the text, so that way each new line in the file is the next line from the screenshot. I also colored some of the text in the message to make it stand out more. To do that, just stick it inside a FONT tag and change the colors to whatever you want. The hex colors go RRGGBB where RR is a hex number for red, GG is green, BB is blue. Valid numbers are 0-9, A-F. So A is 10, B is 11, etc. Or at least, that's an easy way to remember it. So FF is white. So to do pure red, you'd use FF0000. That's 256 red, 0 green, 0 blue. You can also just put "red" in instead of #ff0000. It'll handle the obvious color names. But if you know nothing about HTML or HEX colors, just Google them and read up. It's very easy. If you can play Hengband, you can handle simple HTML. Advice when you start trying? Backup the screenshot first if it's important to you. Then just modify it, and open the file to see what that did. Modify, refresh. Modify, refresh. But you were double resisting fire vs. those hell wyrms, no? That and hide in mud coupled with stone to mud (so you can rest up to full hp) should have made them easy. Their breaths should only have done 80 or so hp if you are double resisting and standing on a wall. On 18.11.2005 01:43 chriskousky@hotmail.com wrote: Oooh ... scratch that ... I see you are in the mountain :) Yes, that would make Hell Wyrms about 20x harder then normal. Congrats on those as well!!!! On 18.11.2005 16:40 NeoTiamatI@fuse.net wrote: Actually, you're half right and half wrong. I used double fire resistance initially to survive their breath attack, but I fought them 80% in the vault. Unfortunately, while I _TRIED_ using Hide in Mud to hide sneak back backstab hide sneak back backstab and rest up when needed, I couldn't! They regenerated HP faster than I could damage them, and plus they saw me EVERY time. I could never sneak up on them, even with superstealth and stealth at Amber [32]. So I just had to melee them, Hit and Away when low on HP, quaff healing, mow them down with arrows as they charged me, pray they didn't breath, then smack on them some more! The Jabberwock was MUCH easier. XD I used the Hide in Mud trick, the first blow was a Powerful Blow _AND_ a fatal injury that took it down to half hp. Then a few blows later I hit it on a fatal spot and insta-killed it. Though I will say one thing! It's not Hengband 1.7's fault! I have Ironman Unusual Rooms on, and then to always generate unusually small levels. So it always generates nothing BUT vaults. Which leads to massively out of depth enemies. But the fun thing is, the smallest teleportation in a vault will move you OUT of the vault, every time. Then there's only four or five pathways between vaults where an enemy could have gone, so I can just teleport until I'm on it, and I've got a nice narrow, twisty path to fight them on. >=) Yay! Did I mention my ninja is Lucky? Mwahaha, at Clvl 25 I got a Staff of Mana Storm! I keep 5 charges on that sucker. It can't be harmed by the elements. >=) On 18.11.2005 16:42 NeoTiamatI@fuse.net wrote: Pardon, I meant Clvl 35 on that staff. God would it have been too easy if I had it at Clvl 25.
