You have stumbled on a trap! You have aroused a den of thieves! I got both Wormtongue and Bullroarer (stole from me immediately) and a fairly egregious number of thieves. I think I'll be teleporting and leaving the level.

Lucky for sorcerers that they have the Fireflash spell. Wouldn't kill the uniques, but at least you'd get rid of those *nasty* thieves.
