I blame Kazehakase (browser) for mangling my spaces into odd characters. Is this fixable by a moderator or something? On 11.7.2006 21:50 Elliott946@aol.com wrote: Yep. I think of that hallway as the "Hallway of Death" and arguably the single hardest encounter in any 'band, much worse than the Room of the Great Fire.. Some may say ToME has overpowered characters, but I'd like to see a Sangband (or whatever) character get through that hallway in one piece. In fact, my favorite memory in any 'band was charging a barehand-using hermit yeek bard down that hallway and having him actually emerge from the other side. Severely battered and drained over a million XP despite hold life, but alive nonetheless. Alternatively, swap in Aggravation gear and lure them to you. On 11.7.2006 22:35 erikmesoy@yahoo.com wrote: Aggravation gear doesn't help. They're standing in there and won't come out. (Perhaps it's the Ancient White Dragon at the front blocking the rest.) I don't have Thaumaturgy (now called Innate) either, so I suppose one option is looking for gear that grants nether immunity. They shouldn't all breath at the same turn right? And the D has 1k hp or something. He'll be down in no time, while you can step back after one attack and recover. On 11.7.2006 23:51 erikmesoy@yahoo.com wrote: Uh, the corridor goes like this: .*\V‡{~*……{{…D Not to mention summoned monsters from Tevildo and curses from Benedict while I walk. Hmm. Multiple potions of *Healing* might help too. Or buying a crapload of bolts and branding them all with Cubragol. On 12.7.2006 00:03 Mat wrote: I never said you should walk all the way! I said let the nether kill the D while you take one step in and one step back. Or is it Nether Balls? Then it wouldn't work of course. On 12.7.2006 00:09 Mat wrote: Oh just found out Nightwalker don't breath Nether... Must have confused some things there... Well forget that idea in this case On 12.7.2006 00:10 erikmesoy@yahoo.com wrote: They intelligently cast nether balls and summon undead, like groups of Dread. They won't cast bolts. Wow, lots of discussion on this. On 12.7.2006 04:19 jmiddendorf@hmc.edu wrote: Huh ... a Sangband character? Without genocide or teleport, etc? I suppose scrolls of questing are out of the picture? And passwall? At +56 speed, I expect a shots based fighter with a triple crossbow would make quick enough work of the dragon, esp. with forged xdragon bolts. Banish evil would scatter them (staff or spell), I think there's a necromacy spell that does psi damage to LOS, the *wonder* spell for mages, scrolls of nightfall (if they aren't resistant to dark of cast morgul spells) to get them asleep, then sneak up as a mouse. Antisummoning spell as a necro would make things a lot easier regardless. The difference is that in Sangband, all the spells don't do ridiculous damage, so you can stand for a round or two there and make some (marginal) progress at eliminating the dragon, and the summons would appear around the summoner, not you, so moving around the wall is still plausible.
