Just a note: that elvenkind having immunity to acid is a bug that'll be fixed in the next release. (It should have a random resist like in V)

Been fighting lesser enemies with my acid-branded gnomish shovel lately. "Don't bother me, I'm minin' the mountain!" Found the shield of Thorin in the remains of some unique; bought a ring of resPoison in the black market for about 56K, then found a ring of the same type in the remains of a silly sorcerer shortly thereafter. Need to find a good amulet and perhaps proper headgear. The golden crown is nice bling though, so I might keep it. I'm diving with confidence.

Wow, found some nice stuff -- Belegennon, Cammithrim, and boots of the Messenger (telepathy). Carrying my boots of speed as swap for demanding encounters. Still no interesting headgear. I'm a bit worried that the golden crown looks a bit 'cheap'; the townspeople don't respect me. And neither does my thousand-yard stare affect them. The horror, the horror... Pits of demonic jellies and angry mushrooms... Hallucinating until the early morning. Remember the good times, slapping orcs around with a shovel, laughing all the way.

Hooray, a crown of lordliness! Found it in a vault of a dead king, among with an amulet of regen (didn't do him much good). Had a garage sale, well, give-away, rather. House-cleaning. Nobody came. Westernesse-swords and rare rings lying there in the mud, sigh. The morning after, vanished. They don't like my face. Should I happen to slay a pitiful-looking beggar, well, excuuuse me. Work-related: Diving carefully. Smaug didn't carry anything good. Time-hounds spotted for the first time, avoided. Restocked the black market after defeating the Lernaean Hydra: nothing interesting. Gonna dive some more and play in the vaults.

It's unlike me to get this far in a Vanilla-based variant. And of all classes, a warrior... Diving towards the 80s now, finally finding some good gear. I saw a full plate armour lying on the floor and thought to myself, "I bet it's Isildur", and it was! Gave up rShard for Holcolleth; with the cap of Thranduil I feel reasonably safe. For now.

BTW, thanks for posting. My DaJAngband dumps have been getting lonely on the ladder.

(Sure, and thanks for the flavourful variant :-)

Now I'm getting somewhere. Hangin' 'round 98 gearing up. Thuringwethil dead. A little test in survival techniques. Speed +28, hit'er with the axe of Balli Stonehand until dead, blink to draw away summoned nasties and witch kings from loot, hit'em with *Destruction* and tele away the survivors, run back and ID stuff, and then find out that the RNG has a bad day. Oh well. Back to opening up dragon-bellies.

I played ToME to death some years back, so I kinda know what to expect in the end-game (lots of running away, hehe). None of my warriors ever defeated Sauron though, but I have some ideas now, might work.

Oh, and this is the last warrior I'll ever play! :-)

Why not use the Lance? It gets one less blow, but it hits a lot harder than Balli.

Hmm, I see what you mean. The drop in CON = ca 100 HP, but faster kills = less damage. I'll give it a try, thanks for the suggestion. I'll probably find some stat potions eventually.

On 19.5.2009 19:03 Cato Svevn wrote:
Let's see now... Maeglin dropped the Glaive of Pain. Also found BoS +10, Cambeleg and the star of Elendil (finally SeeInv :-) -- not all at the same time, of course. What I need now is plenty of !Healing and !/_Speed. Sauron must die. Morgoth, I dunno... I'm "somewhat lucky", might make it.

Oh, and the Lance is nice. Recalled right next to a red dragon pit on 98. Half an hour later I cursed the lack of mass-ID. :-)

Drain experience is nasty in 1.0.97. I wanted to make it noticable since you can pretty much ignore it in V, but I think I went slightly overboard.

Met Saruman in a greater vault; what a pushover. Found Vilya in the same vault. A couple of Ringwraiths also easily dead. I'm going after Sauron in my next recall.

I don't mind the DrainExp, I use the glaive as a swap only when going after the bigger enemies.

"You're wielding the Glaive of Pain." "The Lord of the Shadow Host blinks away." Self-preservation, good for him... :-)

On 23.5.2009 18:32 Cato Svevn wrote:
OK, finally dead. Real life catching up, it's been fun. Decided to hit Morgoth with all I've got just to get it over with, took him down four stars, not half bad with my lack of preparation. Even forgot to wield the glaive. Used one scroll of mass banishment to remove summoned high demons, then came the wyrms shortly after. Froze to death. Not the worst way to go.

Btw, Sauron was trapped inside a small vault. I saw him pacing back and forth while I took my time digging a zig-zag tunnel towards him. Apparently the mighty sorceror doesn't know the Stone-to-mud spell, and was ill-prepared for Pain. Heeh heeh.

I'll be back next year, I guess. I just installed Diablo II, here comes another addiction. :-)
