If you were to plot "difficulty" versus dungeon level on a graph, I think you'd find that the slope of the curve increases suddenly just past level 30. I consistently dive to level 30 in about an hour, and then I have to slow way, way down on my way to level 40 if I want to not die. Perhaps I'm going *too* slow right now, but all my other characters have died right around this depth so I'm playing it safe.

Also, I found a cool sword.

Proceeding into dungeon... a Large Metal Chest with "Gleaming Black Runes" drained all my stats when I tried opening it, but it turned out to contain a Golden Crown of Telepathy. w00t.

Also, a potion of Polymorph (I was half hoping to turn into another, better, race) gave me Horns and the Harden to Elements mutations... So with Telepathy and the resistance mutation, I feel pretty safe in diving further. Still wouldn't mind some permanent res_poison; I have a free amulet slot, so I might be able to work something out with my jewelry if I should find a nice amulet and a ring of resist poison.

Historic moment: first ancient dragon killed by any of my human warriors. It was a Green, and went down in two rounds against Slayer. (After !oResistance, !oSpeed, and !oHeroism - overkill.) What a ridiculous sword.

Found some more neat stuff... The Gauntlets of the Hunter (from the armory) which give +4 speed and constitution (!!!); The Armor of Hellfire, which I can't wear because it lacks res_base, which would provide +2 speed and constitution... and still no amulet. I think that once I find a good amulet I'll be able to shuffle things around and wear the Hellfire armor, cause it sure seems good.

The King in Yellow was very tough. I was (too) liberal in my use of healing potions while fighting him, consuming my only Potion of Life... I guess that's what they're there for. He dropped and Amulet of the Magi; it gives SI so now I get to use a ring of Resist Nether.

Massive poison breath from a Spectral Tyrannosaurus. Bummer. Didn't know those things could breathe poison or I wouldn't have ever gotten close to it.

Not sure exactly how much damage it was, but I'm pretty sure I was in the ~500 vicinity when it happened.
