A chest in DQ1 dropped the stone earlier than ever, at a time when I most need it.
Back to Angband I stumbled upon a vault full of traps, the first monster droped a disarming wand... The big axe that was sitting on the vault's floor only has brand acid and my priest dislikes it, but at least it kills things quickly.
Recalled to Castle where a special feeling surprised me. While waiting for Mime to come out another surprise in the form of a dreadlord emerged. The RNG decided it wasn't time to kill me yet, and I thanked him by not crying for the lost Phial and Glamreding.

Yeah, the Stone can be a killer if you're not careful. I haven't gone through the code or anything, but I THINK what happens is that the stone drains you like 25 mana when you use it. If you have less than 25 mana, you're paralyzed until you rest long enough to get your mana back to positive. If you accidentally let it happen when monsters are close by, that can be really painful.

In a way, non-spellcasting classes are at an advantage when using the stone. Since they have no mana to drain, the stone just drains them the 25 (or whatever amont is correct, I forget) hp and calls it a day. It might confuse you for a round or two, but that's it. Much less dangerous than a potential 50+ round paralyzation.
