The gauntlets of free action are the most recent quest reward from a dlevel 15 quest for dlevel 27 monsters Grave Wights. Actually, they're not too bad, and as usual, I'm overlevelled. I wonder if I'll be able to post this...looks like I'm a little power higher; I got drained badly b the grave wights and !oRestoreXP is not forthcoming... The stats are all drained due to disease and various traps.

Just got the light crossbow also; was using hand xbow for a long time. With good sources of FA and SI, all I need is the basic 4 resistances to do some diving. Well, that and a ! of ResoreXP.

Some components would be nice... With some steel I might actually make some decent armor of my own.

Could use some boots of stealth or FF, so I could swap in a diff amulet. It's tempting to use deadliness instead of protection, but the brand is probably dealing more damage than the pike itself. Cold brand is +14, pike is 1d13 * 1.48 I can't wait for stat gain. Multiple blows will be nice. I'm getting 9 armor from teh pike too, you get extra if you're proficient in them.

Hmmm... on my wishlist. Better boots (craft them?), ego launcher or Heavy Xbow, and more stat potions. Course, I'm 5 levels off where they even start dropping naturally.

Maxed out magic devices. They're really useful, more so than archery right now, due to never missing and having low fail rates. Of course, they won't get better than this. I'm really looking forward to my first (and 2nd and 3rd and 4th....) potion of strength.

I guess I'll jsut have to hold in until that happens. For now, though, I think it's easy quest time...

I've managed to craft or find something pretty good/useful into every slot of my kit. Gloves with +3 speed? Sure, I'll take it :) Now I just need some strength so I'm not at a heavy load all teh time. Next quest is for gnomish wizards. I think I'll pass on that for a long while. Maybe find a source of chaos resistance or at least a honkload of hp.

The 2d13 pike is doing well for me, and so is a third attack. Con is looking good, but still lacking an artifact weapon, let alone one better that this (ok, prob not too hard). I'm curious; if this weapon got westernesse, would it be more or less identical to eorlingas? Got a potion of gain skill. It was nice. I'm hoping to find a *good* artifact weapon eventually, so that I can choose which thing to specialize in. Maybe I'll get lucky and find the glaive of pain.

I also offed Waldern and Vargyo (more or less simultaneously), Shelob, and Castamir.

I got a ring of holiness from the quest; can't hardly activate it, have light resistance, and sust_con. That makes it about as bad as a ring of sustain body. I think I'll keep the ring of acid for now. A better ring *would* be nice.

It was one of those big arse city-sized vaults with a checkerboard of treaure in teh center. Anyhoo, I finished off the solars with some trepidation. A few close calls, but I knew that I should play it safe this time and when in doubt quaff. Even so, there were close calls.

Found 2 mithril and 2 adamant in the vault, and decided to go for a dragon helm, hoping for telepathy. No luck. Used all 4 on trying, but no luck. Even what I got was only ok. I decided to keep the detection from Holhenneth.

Quest reward was useful though; RoS +8. That pushes me up to +17 base, with plenty of staves of speed laying about.

I offed Omaraz the eye-tyrant (one of the uniques I dislike the most), and Fundin and early on the Phoenix. Saruman was also about, but I was looted out, so I decided to pass on him. Elsewhere on teh level, I found a heavy xbow of extra shots +2 -- one of the best ranged weapons available. I'm not looking forward to my encounter with angelic uniques, but maybe I'll have Vilya by then (hah!). I'd also like PDSM and the axe of Eonwe while we're at it.

Next quest is skull druj, and I just dropped all my rods of ball spells. Sigh. Maybe I'll jsut take the failed quest. Or maybe I'll scum for rods for a bit.

Fast+23 is nice. Missing Nether is obnoxious, but so far the damage is little, and I don't really care about losing XP. I'll probably sit at this XP mark for a while, until I choose my final race. I suppose it'll depend on my final strategy and equipment.

No equipment changes. Still hoping for an elven ring or PDSM. Pretty much all crafting exercises have resulted in something I didn't want. I want an armor with RPOISON and RNETHER (disen would be nice), but I've had no luck. RLight would be good too. After I get those, I'll be ready for the elven rings and Sauron. Really. This time for sure. Power 95 winner if I'm lucky.

Feldisham, Bullroarer, Boldor, the Emperor Quythulg, The Tarrasque, Qzzlylup, Gothmog, and the big 2 are left. I'll ignore the 'Q's unless I find them, but I want to off Gothmog and the Tarrasque, lest I find an unpleasant end.

After reading enough Hengband dumps to learn some real strategy, I went down with a pile of scrolls, potions and staves/rods.

I decided on finishing with an elf; there weren't any Sang Elf winners that I knew of, and I planned on shooting Morgoth to death, so it seemed a good idea. HP went down by around 100 (expected), but I still had sust_con, so it was all good.

Seeker bolts of impact, seeker bolts 2d8, and a host of other seeker bolts rained down upon Morgoth. He summoned a bunch, but I genocided them. *Destruct* was not necessary. 1 teleport, and a bunch of genocide-like things. And a lot of arrows.

I'm suprised this score doesn't top the list in points; I was only 94 power at the end (IIRC), while the top post was 100 power. I guess time is a factor? Anyhoo, this character started out as human, became dunedain, then finally elf; I am amused.

Stegocentipedes on lvl3 is a suicide quest for a fighter-type; they're fast and have a *huge* ac, and are decent in their fighting prowess.

I didn't have lightning resist going into Killer Iridescent Beetles, and they also dished out too much damage (and were somewhat fast, IIRC).

As for Manticores, they whip poison darts and breath fire. If I could have soloed each of them, it would have been doable (even without poision resist, but I had to leave the level too much for being attacked by too many at a time.

Regarding score, I agree that you should have a higher one for not finishing at power level 100. One thing to keep in mind is that somewhere in the docs, I remember it reading that number of skills chosen affects score. That might explain why my first winner had a higher score--he had two less skills than you do. But congratulations anyway.

So, spreading out your skills lowers your overall power and decreases your score, relative to focusing them more. Strange.
