Well this sorc is doing nice so far. Dumped it after killing Bokrug (dlev 37) and reaching level 32. A couple of lucky book finds as well, but the most out of depth one was the last Kendo book lying around in the Labyrinth (which is useless other than for show :P).

Any tips on how to survive summoners more easily? I often try to surround myself with my own summons but that's not always working equally well. Also, how about monsters with tele-to, should I carry that Amulet of Anti-Teleportation as a swap?

I do carry an anti-teleport amulet. I've had a promising character die because I got careless and got teleported into a situation I couldn't handle by a mere phase spider... I think it's worth a slot.

Good luck with the character. I must admit I've never really had the patience to seriously play a sorc...

More HP might help a bit (which, for Sorcerors, means more CON) ... One Mana Bolt from a Dark Elven Warlock might do you in at the moment. When I play sorcerors, I always play CON as the primary stat, and INT secondary (STR third ...).

For summoners, either don't bother with them, or make a long straight corridor, with them on one end and you on the other (Standing on the wall of course). If they summon, simply back off one step into the safety of the walls, and live to fight another day :-)

Later on in the game, you will want to fight *all* of your battles standing on a wall, as there is nice damage reduction involved ... not to mention an easy escape route.

Thanks for the comments. Updated dump, in dungeon where I quest for Malekith, a summoner I'd love to leave alone for now. We're kind of in a deadlock situation; small level (1 screen) and I can't kill him. Got him down to 2 or 3 stars once or twice but with his heal-self, teleport, and summons he has eluded death for at least 2 hours. As long as his summons aren't *too* nasty I think I can still pull it off. Can't wait to get my hands on the Invulnerability spell :].

[Clev 37 dlev 42] Currently having fun in the anti melee cave. Finally taken down Malekith, he was still a pain to fight but with Orb of Entropy (drain life ball) brought down his max HP so much (from 2500 to at least 1500ish) I could whack him using some water balls and the like. Also just done the killing fields quest, really easy if you have dimension door (controlled tele) and chaos bolt (Maulotaur lacks rConf). Still hesitating to do the cloning pits, though, as it always seems easier than it really turns out to be.

Ran into a vault earlier with uniques up to 30 levels out of depth or even more, not sure cuz I ran like hell :p. At least some Amberites ate my *destruction* there ;).

BTW, the char is looking real nice ... Good Job! One question: Why not carry High Mass for the 0% Healing spell? I guess your inventory is rather full at the moment, though ...

Uh, slip of the finger, anti MAGIC cave ofcourse (maybe a nice challenge, a bookless Heng sorceror? :P). I guess I was just carrying stuff back up to the surface in that dump, normally I carry High mass around, pretty essential.

Right now what this character needs is some more speed; Permanent speed of +1 isn't exactly comfortable, and I'm gonna need it outside the Anti melee cave (it's also the main reason why I haven't given the Old Castle quest a shot yet).

I'm curious about that too!

Hmm... maybe "glyph of warding" or something similar to that and immunity to nether attack might have done it well.
Or maybe entrapped him with sea of explosive runes?

On 27.5.2005 14:02 Mars wrote:
No, none of that. I had both Grimoire of Power, and Hellfire tome already. So, hasted, I cast Globe of Invulnerability, and smashed him with Nether Storms. Mind you, those do lvl*15 damage! It took only 4 or 5 casts, and he didn't summon any uniques or stuff I couldn't handle.

Shudde M'ell actually was more difficult as he resists nether somewhat so I had to blast him with Holy Orbs which took a lot longer, and he got more summons in (demons). Does anyone know how much damage is resisted if they "resist somewhat"?

On 27.5.2005 14:24 wrote:
Okay. All "evil" monsters are somewhat resistant to nether attack, and its damage is halved.

"Rocket" damage vs shard-resistant monster is also halved.

Also, found out that using GoI around psycho spear casters is a bad idea; I knew those attacks could penetrate the GoI, but it also makes the *much* more likely for monsters to cast it (guess that's the intelligent spell casting in the monster description ^^)

Is there a reason you're wearing that cloak of aman as opposed to Jack of Shadows? It looks like the extra rNexus is redundant in light of your boots of Shiva's Avatar.

Also, that randart helm is really something incredible--I suggest you try hard to find a good alternate source of rBlindness so you can wear it instead of Thranduil, which is essentially also redundant except for its rBlindness.

Best,

Oh when switching the Shiva boots in I hadn't seen the double rNexus. Good suggestion.

And that randart helm just turned up on last trip, it's pretty good. But it does weigh 6lb more than my current one which means less mana. I'll check it to see if the mana decrease is worth the HP increase + rDisen. (I can swap it in, got an Immortal Eye lamp for rBlind too).

Uhm, about the GWoP in the arena: I did use exactly that strategy. Using invulnerability blast him with hellfire from one side of the arena (and have a wall of stone ready to hide in to rebuff); it will come towards you. If you have to regain your mana, use dimension door to teleport to the other side of the arena: you will be out of 'tracking' range and you can rest undisturbed.

I'll check Zul as you suggested; I didn't go there, quests there are always closed. You have to know one of those realms to take it then?

I think it just proves once more that "dispel magic" is THE most dangerous monster spell for sorcerers, as you don't get any saving throw.

What is dangerous is not "dispel magic" spell but "Globe of Invulnerability" spell itself!

There's a notorious side effect of GoI. When you get dispelled of it, your "energy" reverts to zero!

So you'd better not cast GoI while fighting those who can cast dispel magic or psycho-spear... or even better not fight with Nodens and Raphael, I suppose.
