My second kind of character ever in this game. Yesterday I tried this game for the first time and fired up some American Officers, but those got boring.

Dead to a quest. I'll probably just stop doing those because it takes forever to even find the monsters you're supposed to kill. That gets boring. Boredom leads to carelessness, and carelessness leads to death. (Sheet grabbed with wizard mode after death by the way, because I accidentally skipped past the way-too-easy-to-skip death screen)

Same combo, another try. Not doing quests this time, and things are going smoothly.

Dead again. I think I dove/rose too quick. Must be that compression factor.

Yet another attempt here. This one ran into a card pit last time up. Gained a few levels very nicely, though I'd have been doomed to die to the 5s without the Forward Cannons of the Clockwork Chassis.

Grr.. typo. I was destroying these things easily, too...

New character, new strategy: As soon as I get Clockwork Carbine, start rising and doing quests like crazy. It's working so far.

I also decided to stop wasting points on Firearms and Combat skills. Gadgeteering skills first, Stealth second, Devices third.

Dead, but I'm making progress. I had just arrived on the level, and I think I got a little careless in detecting.

How's the damage on the clockwork carbine at high levels? I was always afraid it would max out at too low a level to be useful in the late game.

Slaughtering troglodytes is my favorite leveling strategy for the early game and even the early-mid game (in the early stages, the henchmen and infernals are worth decent exp themselves, and later, when using beam or area attacks you can kill SO many at once that they exp is still pretty decent), but those troglodyte beastlords might just have the worst danger/exp ratio of any monsters in the game with their speed and poison breath.

After troglodytes, I usually move on to card, or, even better, beastmen pits.

On 17.2.2005 14:00 Neil Stevens wrote:
My last two major games I've run into card pits, and they served me very well each time. Beastmen (particulary cheetahmen) were giving me some trouble right around when this one died, so I think if I ran into a beastman pit I'd have had to run.

As for damage, I'd yet to run into a situation where the first gadget in the carbine failed to do the job. One quest for small stone trolls was interesting because the lead bullets would bounce off sometimes, but that just meant it took a few shots to kill them.

So, if there's a problem with the damage not being enough, I haven't gotten that far yet.

Hey, does anyone know if Pyrokinetics enhances the damage from Clockwork Carbine, or just from firearms?

I'm afraid pyrokinetics just enhances firearms damage for right now.

Thanks.. I'll save those points next time, then.
