I'm just gradually raising my level and gather a rich stable of equipment as I prepare to enter the midgame. More later, I hope.

As for damage type use: yeah, it comes up and yeah, I absolutely do. That said, the best damage type is the one that one-shots or stuns them, so Plasma Bolt (and Meteor for the raw aoe damage) are increasingly what I use.

I think I'm getting close to where Lonely Mountain is viable. I was going to try doing the Orc Cave and Witch Wood next, looking for gloves to fix some dated parts of my kit before I head to the midgame.

During "Troll Slayer", the level I needed to hunt on had a crypt full of Revanants. These things were dangerous and didn't go down in 1-2 hits. It was managable because I had a Life 2 book with turn undead, but a stray long range fireball just happened to take out my Life 2 book, even through 2 resists!

It was absolute chaos after that. I couldn't control the fights and they'd chase me relentlessly across the level. At one point I had 0 HP. And I only had cure serious wound potions, so I could no longer top off my miserably low HP with a single shot.

I ended up swapping my better but heavier Cord armor for this set because I wanted more consistent fire resist with a shield. This tradeoff existed because weight affects Sorcerer SP. It's a really tricky effect stat to juggle.

My sorcerers tend to go more heavily on the books than yours so perhaps it is just a playstyle difference, but I do think grabbing the nature one for its excellent early resistance spell could be worth it at least.

As for the wizard staves, just keep collecting non-ego ones in your house for when you get the branding spells. Trump and Nature ego ones I find to be the best, dual wielding trump staves I'd branded worked nicely for quite some time with one of mine. Just be careful in the cases you choose to use their teleport follow ability, probably don't bother with that until you have globe. Good luck!
