Missed this game so decided to start up a Naugrim Belegost. Wanted to do 4 STR, 0 DEX start (highest STR and lowest DEX start I've played before). The start, at least with the way I build my character, turned out to make a very slow game. Possibly my worst turn count descending that was exacerbated by my caution about false floors (maximizing time spent seeing every square so no cutting across blind corners), lack of Opportunist (which honestly I should have gotten just to access Rapid Attack - I forgot that was a requirement), and poor luck with gauging sanctity charges that got me stuck with suboptimal weapons, first a vampiric longsword, then a spear of fury. The cursed weapons were significantly weaker, so to play it safe, I repeated some floors.

This was a bit of an experimental build where I basically neglected smithing for the entire midgame (didn't make loremaster artefact eitther). I thought this would speed up my gameplay so I could forge more near the end, but at least in this run, that did not happen. Compared to my other games, I think this run had sub-average luck, so I think the build isn't at fault for how tight the clock was.

Other than Glamdring, RNG was lackluster for artifacts. At least it gave me 2 3 use forges before the 1000 feet deadline, which was critical to the run success. Even with my 2 artefacts, Morgoth fight was closer than I would have liked. I'm rusty on my game knowledge not having played in a while. I thought I had requirements for Rapid Attack and didn't. And I didn't have damage rings (didn't find enough forges to even replace my +3 accuracy rings with damage rings or +4 accuracy rings, or +1 with +2 constitution amulet), and didn't have enough XP for woven themes/song of sharpness. I do appreciate the generous mithril gear for melting down into faenorian lamps and eventually my mithril corslet.

I played this quite slowly because the early game is dull on this build, and I didn't have to go through it again. Lots of misses and chasing orcs around while they can't get through my hefty protection. Getting critical resistance was probably the turning point. After critical resistance I felt comfortable and not much threatened me.

Had to waste 4k turns or so on 1000 feet to find enough XP for song of sharpness after killing Morgoth to take out the 3rd sil. Again because my game knowledge is rusty, I forgot just how difficult this is. But all's well that ends well. My first Naugrim Belegost win. Edain Haleth coming soon.

MPA Sil revealed I missed 2 artefacts. One was on 1000 feet from Thuringwethil which got buried by Morgoth. The fight was too close for me to risk running to it, identifying it, then running back to the fight. Morgoth regens quite quickly and my supply of !dexterity wasn't bottomless. The other was also either buried by Morgoth (there were so many pits I couldn't see what things that died around the battle dropped), or spawned on the floor I got false floored on. Here is me messing with that same save file a few turns later. I'm surrounded by 6 Bat-Fells of Thuringwethil even though in the real game Morgoth banished it to the shadow realm. I only receive the 100 XP for identification for the first one.

The 100 XP regained ultimately doesn't matter since 1) the game is already won and 2) 100 XP is very little experience when the total experience is nearing 100k. But it's the principle of the thing and the power of knowing I can beat the system if I really wanted to. Item destruction can go to hell.
