Celebrimbor's gloves are always an amazing find on smithing builds, as are Dramborleg and Hurin on Naugrims. I favored Hurin over Draumborleg not because of the 1 constitution actually, but for the option of song of slaying and the extra 1 will so I don't randomly get confused or entranced. I don't carry clarity potions so confused can be bad. Also, the ones that confuse you are mostly dragons late game, which you never want to mess around with.

I wonder how useful master hunter has been. Haven't really felt its effects since it isn't as pronounced as bane is.

About to make my great speed artefact out of mithril due to a lucky find on 950 feet. I am praying I find one more 3 use forge before Morgoth, but if I don't, Calris should be enough?

Nevermind. I guess Aeglos made a huge difference against vampires. Forgot I had that.

I feel like in either game, my artefacts luck could have been better. The artefact axes are nice on a dwarf, but any sharp weapon would still outperform them imo. Unfortunately no sharp artefact axe unless you smith one.

I'm fairly sure I have enough damage to kill Morgoth this run. Going to favor song of slaying over song of sharpness. I think if your attack is around plus or minus 5 of 20, it is better than sharpness. Haven't decided where I want to fight Morgoth yet. Probably not the central chamber. Even with the song of slaying approach, I have no idea what else is in that chamber. A bunch of great red drakes could potentially entrance me through my will and resist. Shelob and stacked ancient amethyst serpents will be a stat check against my light radius.

The way I escaped was tanking hits while digging my way through the rubble to the top left corner. For the third sil, I swung at it a good 50 times before I realized I should really put on my grace gear so I'd have better song of sharpness bonus. Debated just using Skysplitter to take it out since it's not a masterpiece so I can always make Skysplitter Mk. II once I get out of the throne room. Decided against it since I thought Calris would be able to do it eventually and I was worried about unrelenting horrors on the ascent, especially with the 3rd sil curse.

Think I'll take my time on the ascent. Want to craft myself a full suit of mithril worthy of a dwarven master blacksmith.

Learned a lot of good lessons in the throne room this run. For instance:

1) Brands don't do extra damage to the crown. However, more melee is good because you can critical hit on it, even if it is critical resistant.

2) Don't be full when entering the throne room. Even if you have to wait for 2000 turns on 950 feet, that's better than waiting 2000 turns in the throne room.

3) There's sometimes unrelenting horrors near morgoth. If you use song of slaying, it's better not to get their attention until you have more slaying bonus.

4) Morgoth is way stronger than I remembered. I'm a little confused now how Lascare, my Noldor, was able to kill Morgoth without taking rapid attack. I was able to pull it off this run with slaying bonus and a ridiculously overpowered weapon. 4d13 with brand and sharpness (max 65). And even then I was contemplating taking it. I wasn't beating Morgoth's natural regeneration by all that much. Meanwhile, he only had Saithnar. 3d5, 3 base strength, +4 damage from 2 <+2> damage rings, +3 from strength potion. So 3d15 (max 45)? He must have relied greatly on criticals from slaying bonus and natural Noldor dexterity.

5) Game started out very difficult, got much easier after first forge, ramped up until 300 feet, stays fairly constant difficulty until 600 feet, then overall gets easier once you get used to troll guards, serpents, kemenrauko, ururauko, great drakes, and vampire lords. There's a bit of a difficulty spike for each one of them, but none as big as the one when first encountering giants and snow trolls, or mass orc/warg/easterling packs.

6) Forges don't matter nearly as much as I once thought. A false floor here or there don't matter until you reach 800 feet or later. 2 use forges don't hurt until that point too. If you miss forges early on, you might just have to go without loremaster. Or have a couple points less of smithing bonus. It's not until you reach 23 smithing that forge count really matters.

7) And I've really begun to appreciate the strengths of smiths. Resists are simple to obtain, as is extra light radius. And you can get a branded or sharp weapon even if RNG doesn't give you one. Drained stats don't bother me as much since I'm more comfortable repeating floors if I think I'm not ready for the next one. Mentality-wise, just focusing on surviving rather than taking risky maneuvers to save turns. Even if restoration herb doesn't show up, the extra experience nullifies the threat of easterling and warg packs, pretty much assuring you'll reach mid game, at which point, the next biggest challenge is Morgoth himself. You have thousands of turns to figure him out. I've never really struggled that much after 600 feet or so, at least on smithing builds.

8) Jury's still out on if non-smithing or smithing builds are better if you want to streak wins (i.e. most independent of RNG drops). Don't have enough experience with non-smithing builds yet. My gut tells me non-smithing will be better simply because you have so many tools at your disposal and the experience to make use of them. You don't need to look for forges or waste turns smithing. You have more consumables since you aren't using them to counter drain from smithing. You don't need a ridiculous weapon to kill Morgoth either as far as I know. !Quickness, stat buffs, song of sharpness/slaying, momentum, rapid attack, and two weapon fighting is all you need. I'll find out soon enough I suppose.

Much more comfortable now after finding Celeg Aithorn and using song of slaying on and off for to-hit bonuses. Think I'll just leave this run here for now. Got plenty of mithril to make a mithril helmet and mithril shield. Will probably slap concentration on the helmet, as well as elemental resistances. Put regeneration on the cloak, and maybe replace the gloves as well. Celeg Aithorn's so good I'm fine with just using that instead of my artefact great axe. More versatile and gives me better melee/evasion/protection.
