Uh...strength drain is from an herb.

Revelations reveal a 4 use forge on this level. IDing without _understanding is pure torture so even though I've already ID'ed most of the consumables, I'll probably still dump 500 XP and 3 uses at the forge to make the loremaster artefact. Loremaster's nice for counting stave charges too. The 4th use can be for an amulet of constitution +1 or something.

This game was looking kinda grim for a bit when I got strength drained from the herb and then stuck with a -1 damage ring. My only staff of sanctity got burned up by a fire drake hatchling. But it just so happens that I decided I wanted to try forging an early gloves of strength this game, and that was quite lucky. Coupled with 2d6 longsword, power, and that glove, I was still doing 2d9 damage even though -1 str drain and -1 damage ring.

If I actually get the motivation to continue this game, I think it's in a rather good spot. My metric for that is usually how many potions of quickness/dexterity/healing sources I have, and this one has plenty. Uniques that require buffing for the most part are...Ancalagon, Gorthaur, Glaurung, Belegwath, Ulfang, Morgoth, Duruin, Vallach, Draugluin, the cats, and Delthaur. Turkano if you don't have rauko-bane by then. Most of the other uniques I consider "fair." i.e. you can kill them without buffs, at most you'll need some healing. Varies depending on your character, but the list above holds true generally, from my experience.
