Blessing of Orome as it is currently is way, way, way too good. +5 light radius is ridiculous at any point in the game - it takes 25 total song for Song of the Trees to give that and with Orome you can shoot and sing. It makes early orcs a complete non-issue, and I was able to coast through what was one of the rougher areas on an earlier version of this build pre-Orome (Nathil on the ladder).

I'm not sure if I like Orome in general. There was a bit in the early game when I just had torches where I was firing arrows just to get a bit of extra light to see by, which is good by my rule of thumb that a good ability should change the way you play, but it's competing with bows of radiance in that department and that becomes less relevant as you get more light. Once you have more constant light radius, it mostly just becomes "do what you ordinarily would, but laugh at shadow-making and light-vulnerable enemies". I do like the idea of it and I'd like to see how it would play with only giving a max of +2 or 3 light, but I'm not convinced.

General 1.4.1 opinions:

I like the expansion of enchantment types, especially for otherwise subpar weapons. Calcirya still seems too good to me. It's strictly better that sceptres of power with light, more damage sides, and an evasion bonus, and it has the chance to generate with +3 to will and song, which seems substantially better than a spear of the Vanyar for singers. Cuivinen is also too good with light + 2 sustains + skill bonus, but I love it from a flavor perspective, especially since it only occurs on daggers, presumably once for hunting. I don't think it should be easy to get permanent light on a weapon and having it on several types undercuts the specialness of spears of the Vanyar. The str/dex swap bows seem kinda bland to me.

Not a fan of !Esgalduin as currently implemented. A bonus of [x] to [y] for [pile of dice] turns seems inelegant and a little too Angband-y, and the poor-elf's !Voice effect doesn't feel coherent with the perception bonus. I don't know of a situation where I'd really need both of those at once, unlike with Miruvor where having all its effects together is a godsend. I like the reference from a flavor perspective but again the implementation isn't working for me.

Didn't really get to play around with sunlight much, but phantoms seem very evocative. I hope there's sunlight at the Gates, that seems like it could be fun.

Modified archery seems good to me. I'm missing flaming arrows against shadows and serpents but otherwise losing it has less of an impact than I expected, although that may just be Orome silliness.

Thinking more about Orome and liking it less. Even more than from just a strict gameplay perspective it messes with the aesthetics and theme of Sil by light inflation - you lose a lot of the sense of fumbling around in the dark and the sense of almost-awe I get from the permanent 3 light from a Feanorean Lamp is completely gone. I think even if it were moved to a cost and amount of light comparable to Song of the Trees, the fact that you can have them both would be too much (and it makes more thematic sense for a singer to be able to call up that much light than an archer).

Thank you very much for the feedback, and doubly for trying Blessing of Orome. I am heartened to have a second opinion on it even if it's a negative one. I initially (at a maximum of 3) thought it would be strong, put it near the top of the tree, and then walked into dark rooms, got hit by arrows flying out of darkness, and felt it was miserable. Playing more extensively with it placed lower down, it felt very strong against darkening enemies even though it takes some time to get to full light. By the point of release I thought it was probably a bit too strong for its position, but I wanted to get it tested and expensive skills don't get tested very much.

Perhaps it's back to the drawing board on that one.

One thing I do dislike though is the experienced-player trick of carrying a second lamp to drop on the floor. This is one of those things which are not at all obvious to newbies, but it can be quite hard to survive some fights without it. Killing this trick without providing extra sources of light feels like it will spike difficulty badly.

I'm glad you found the feedback helpful! For what it's worth, I've never had to use that trick (or had the skill to use it well enough to be worth the lost turn), but I tend to very aggressively grab light sources and high protection so my perception of how hard e.g. gwathraukar are may be a little low. For shadow spiders, my gut feeling as a middling-good player is that non-experienced players shouldn't expect to survive a straight fight with them, especially since spider AI means you can consistently run and hide. They are consistently genuinely terrifying across builds, more so than almost any other monster, and that's a gameplay experience I really don't want to lose.
