  1,225 100 ft (Jeweller)
  1,332 100 ft (B.t.w: 3 Melee, 2 Evasion, and 4/4 effective.)
1,332 100 ft (The orc soldiers required setup and time.)
  1,607 100 ft Made a Coral Amulet of Grace <+1> 0.1 lb
  1,787 100 ft Made a Garnet Ring of Dexterity <+1> 0.1 lb
  1,948 100 ft Made a Bronze Ring of Accuracy (+2) 0.1 lb
2,486 200 ft The worst part of being a smith is the urge to bank more
2,486 200 ft experience just in case there's another forge.
3,176 200 ft Encountered Gorgol, the Butcher
3,429 250 ft Aha, a forge before I get really desperate.
3,431 250 ft Slightly more economical to put Freedom on a crown, and
3,431 250 ft slightly to a lot more to put any other good song.
3,431 250 ft And not being Nogrod is really stinging.
3,742 250 ft I could easily have died to all those Orc Warriors.
3,742 250 ft I refused to spend my banked XP.
  3,872 250 ft Found a fenorian lamp
3,879 250 ft (So now if I really wanted I could reforge it.)
4,254 250 ft Ok, level cleared, and now I have enough xp to do...
4,254 250 ft ...maybe one of the things I'd usually want at this poin
4,254 250 ft t. Not very impressed even with Gamil Zirak.
4,336 250 ft Made a Crystal Amulet of Regeneration 0.1 lb
  4,337 250 ft (Armoursmith)
  4,337 250 ft (Artifice)
4,486 250 ft Made The Cloak Cut From Contrast [+1] <+1> 2.0 lb
5,072 300 ft Second Restoration, so at least something is going well.
  6,005 300 ft Fell into a chasm
6,116 400 ft (Song of Elbereth)
6,163 400 ft Survived a test of a horn of warning near wargs,
6,163 400 ft orc champions, and easterling warriors.
6,163 400 ft Elbereth + Regen + Greatsword seems be what did it.
6,163 400 ft Maybe the strength of Elbereth will make up for the
6,163 400 ft general weakness of the character.
6,190 400 ft Oh, and a lot of them fled down a stair, it seems.

  6,763 400 ft Slain by a Warg.
  6,763 400 ft Died on 27 December 2017.

From the 26th day of the competition, wearing the gauntlets of Gamil Zirak in an attempt to become a super-smith.

It is not looking very good; I had to really strain collecting every bit of exp from floors to even make my normal +1 grace and +4 cumulative accuracy/evasion with the first forge, and then there wasn't enough left over to make later floors any easier.

Now that I'm at my second forge, I'm realizing that there doesn't seem to be anything I can make that will compensate for the investment in Smithing, especially since I'll be at a 1500-2500 Exp deficit relative to a Nogrod, depending on whether I want to aim for just artifact jewellery or go for an artifact armour/weapon.
(I'm also beginning to notice more of the accumulated nerfs since my last super-smith; one can't put grace on a lot of items, and it's no longer cost efficient to put most abilities on items, due to how exp costs and time/forge/difficulty costs combine. [There's also the slight detail of how standarts and what you can make with Artifice have further deviated, but that's a problem with planning what to Smith instead of the actual Smithing.])

It seems as though, much like on Carol Carrack, Carol Carter would have been much better off just building normal Melee/Evasion/Song and then only going Smithing after collecting good kit from the floor and Maeglin... meaning that, practically speaking, Gamil Zirak is about the worst starting artifact of the competition (tied with Dwarrowdelf).

I died to Singing Elbereth on-and-off instead of just Singing it constantly to get to a better position. Same sort of lesson my super-smith learned with Mastery, but a bit too late.

Like the last character, I can't say I'm sad to see it go.
