Fourth day of the competition, and the artifact is the arrow 'Dailir'; at first I thought this was continuing the theme of worse and worse artifacts, since a single arrow isn't all that reliable against a single creature, and not very useful against multiple creatures, but the starting level does have a longbow (even if it requires fighting some wolves), and there are cases where a thrown or fired object rolls right under the @ and gets picked up automatically.

So this character focused on setting up those cases against everything but single weak creatures (after briefly not bothering upon picking up normal arrows); this was generally done by dropping objects (usually near doors) so that every time Dailir was fired it could only immediately roll back under the @ and be re-quivered for the next shot.

Which meant this archer spends most of its time shooting at melee range... and massacring creatures by doing so.

(Since the competition describer forgot, I should mention that there's an artifact for each day of this savefile [like an "advent calendar"], instead of a random one each time one opens the present, and there's no Sil-curse on opening one. The artifacts are pre-determined, and intended to be slightly stronger each day. Dailir seems to be where they are finally picking up, once I got the hang of it.)

Note: This is the first I've done of this artifact/build; no splats yet.

As I went on, slaughtering things at a reasonable pace and using XP to pick up a few convenient abilities, I noticed that my trick with making Dailir fall in the right place didn't work when a creature dropped items, due to the items being placed before the arrow is. I was generally careful to avoid this effect, but it caught me off-guard with a group of orcs...
...which meant Dailir was where I couldn't reach it, which meant an orc thief was able to pick it up, but I managed to kill its escort (with Othrod), which meant I was able to chase it and shoot it down...
...which meant it dropped all its loot in a space that wasn't quite large enough, and Dailir the exact single thing to disappear.

This character might not be dead, but I feel like it might as well be.

It could certainly go on to win, but it's too far outside the criteria defined by the starting savefile.

I basically tried to kill the character without doing anything you could point at and call "giving up". It survived quite a while on [+10, 5-22] defences, even though it ran out of arrows, got Str drained, and kept losing weapons to orc captains.

In the cornered situation on the death dump, it actually looked like I might win the fight, because a few orc warriors had already died and I wasn't losing health, but crits to the rescue.
