Just to get us started.... and wow this is tedious and old-school! I have to explore the world map! Dungeons have numbers and only go so deep! Recall only works from near that dungeon... Yeah, lots of just slowly figuring our how this place works... No speed record here.

Just wandered the world map today, mostly explored now. Wandered a bit too close to a 7 zone and caught a tail. Some U that was fast and kept summoning at me. Through luck, many ?Teleports, and a few !Speeds, I escaped him. Felt like Corwin and Random trying to keep ahead of Julian, lol! But then I ran into him again on the other side of the map?!? Arggh. I think I'm going to have to level up some in the dungeons until I can face this guy on the world map...

On 6.10.2017 04:18 ranger jeff wrote:
Some progress, clearing the ruins, big 4 troll camp most recently... I should probably just find a 5 or 6 dungeon about now. Speed staff nice. Drops weak...

Also, reading Guns of Avalon just now, it's Strygalldwir chasing me about the world map!

On 7.10.2017 03:15 ranger jeff wrote:
Haha! Got that demon. Unfortunately Shelob is now wandering around the world map, and I'm not ready for her. I seriously need to just dive a dungeon already...

On 9.10.2017 23:40 ranger jeff wrote:
Every dungeon level makes me want to feint, yet produces little in the way of danger or loot. Yet, my dpr is so low I can't really go much deeper. Just had a run in with Malekith, and he's just too fast and heals himself faster than I can damage him...

On 11.10.2017 02:27 ranger jeff wrote:
Finally figured out how to pick my dungeon... And Midas Touch is broken. Tedious, but with the 350k artifacts that show up in shops, the ability to turn everything you encounter into gold is game changing. Tedious though.

On 12.10.2017 02:35 ranger jeff wrote:
Making progress. Jack of Shadows is annoying... Bottomed out in a dungeon which favored martial drops and had no hounds or exploding things, not too many mages... Time to look for someplace to spend dl60+.

The Midas Touch ability I realize is a mutation from the gloves I've been wearing. Great for the gold, but also makes clearing drops a LOT faster. I'm only looking for artifact armor and shooter, and Midas Touch leaves only artifacts.

Somehow permanently lost two points of CON??

On 12.10.2017 17:38 ranger jeff wrote:
Ah, I picked up another mutation, dangit... Time for new gloves and a !New Life? How does one cure mutations in Zangband?

On 13.10.2017 05:05 ranger jeff wrote:
Starting to feel solid. Diving, though only at dl65. Settled on a 6 rated demon dungeon. Was not about to dive hounds, vortices, and exploders, sheesh! Would've liked to see a giant or dragon themed deep dungeon... I've bottomed out on 2's, 3's, and 4's... I need to get to 100, is it going to be through just the 8? or the 7? or is it possible one of the town/1 rated dungeons go all the way? I took one down into the 30's and still didn't find the bottom...

With two renewable heals, somehow I'm lasting against Balrogs and Nycodemons without expending resources...

Also, what the shit with the non-existent unique drops??? NOTHING! Some random monster drops, some store scumming.

On 14.10.2017 05:03 ranger jeff wrote:
Glad I just read Nine Princes of Amber, I took a Pattern Vault down to 90. Climax coming soon! Also, nice cloak, though it drains stats.

On 16.10.2017 03:14 ranger jeff wrote:
Heading towards 50, picking my battles. But wow almost 700 mana and Vampirism True, 300dpr vs anything living and 300hp back to me in the process for 40 mana, that's like 4000hp, almost everything down. Serpent living?

On 16.10.2017 13:40 debo wrote:
I dunno about this variant, but you can't vamp the serpent in poscheng.

On 17.10.2017 01:41 ranger jeff wrote:
Okay this is insane.

Still working level 90 (turns out I can pattern down, but I'm going to have to find another dungeon, level doesn't say bottom, but there are no stairs down.) Most dangerous part of the game is recalling deep, you never know what you'll find around you.

Well this last time I find nearby Gandalf, friendly, with some Archons as escorts, who proceed to summon Great Wyrms of Power and Law to clear the level for me. It was amazing! Then I'm standing there afterwords and I get a bright idea. I start attacking Cherubs, Angels, Archons, etc. Well, I must've let a pissed off Archon get away, it started summoning hostiles, and all hell broke loose! The entire level is a warzone of Power wyrm vs Power wyrm! I'm hiding as best I can, and it looks like my side is winning, and I'm watching the drops pile up (and get compacted, and even monsters are getting compacted that's how crowded it is.) I know there are going to be dozens of artifacts to sift through, eventually. I get behind a mass of friendlies as far as the eye can see and proceed to wait.

That's when the uniques started showing up. I don't know if somebody is summoning them or if they're spawning on their own, but after running the gauntlet of Wyrms of Power, they're all getting knocked down with a single malediction!

Gothmog, Benedict, the Destroyer, the Terrasque, Kaschei the Immortal, Caine, Ithaqua, Gerard, Vecna, Tselakus, Bast, Bleys, Fiona, Dracula, Saruman, Brand, Gandalf (yeah I made him angry and watched his escort devour him, lol!,) Uriel, Santa Claus, and Fangorn, so far. Oh, and Barney, lol. Oh, Jasra and finally that prick Jack of Shadows (who had been summoned friendly, lol...)

Can't wait for the loot, but I think it's going to another day of playing before I can get to it.

And did I mention how nice it is to pick off a friendly Great Wyrm of Law when it's down to almost dead with a single Vampirism True? 70k xp and the drops, no risk, lol! What an insane level!

On 17.10.2017 01:46 ranger jeff wrote:
Oh, Gothmog I actually fought head-on with full hp. Sure, I ended up using a few !Healings, but apparently he's not resistant to stunning, so I whomped him pretty hard just straight fisticuffs.

A story worthy of an avatar of death.

On 18.10.2017 06:36 ranger jeff wrote:
Well, about 200 artifact drops later, 5 Amberite death curses, many more top uniques down, I finally cleared the level. Charcaroth and Godzilla are still out there, and I need to find a way deeper to get the unicorn so I hope I'll find them, too. Gave up some +mana as I don't think it'll help vs the Serpent. Also have vulnerabilities in fire and cold now, so I might want ot save an inventory slot for !resistance. But overall, feeling pretty boss!, stronger than any endgame chareter ever, and I think I have slots for !Heroism and ?Holy Prayer for an extra +20 on attack.

But currently, 2129dpr at Amber 20 to hit! Or... Ringil for +10 speed and Amber 7... for 4050dpr... Yeah I think I'll try Ringil!

Crossbow with +1 BLOW ftw!

Well, I tried out Wraith Form, and why yes, yes it does make you invulnerable. The entire strategy for this character should simply be to get to 50, Wraith Form vs the Serpent, maybe chug a few !healings or whatever to get rid of stun. Any decent kit will do, no risk victory once you get to 50 and find the Necronomicon.

Haven't seen the Unicorn...

Well, still searching for the Unicorn, as winner is "winner in least turns with Unicorn on the kill list." Nevermind that turns aren't counted, if I don't get the Unicorn, then I don't qualify for the win. But really, I just want to find the Unicorn and stomp it with Wraith Form, lol!
