Pretty smooth run. Haven't seen Galadriel in forever, then suddenly see it almost 3 games in a row. Not really sure what happened to my turn count though. I guess large map sizes early-mid game. I think I actually played fairly efficiently...or maybe I'm just rusty cause I haven't played in a bit.

I'd be swimming in mithril right now, except I made a mistake of not melting all of my mithril before exhausting the forge, so I just left half of it on the floor when I couldn't consolidate all of them into one stack. You can't melt mithril on forges after you exhaust it apparently.

Does dropping spears of the vanyar in a stack boost light? I tried it against Gilim, but realized afterwards that Gilim was a giant and not a troll...going to have to try it again. Regardless, I don't think trolls can hurt me with a defender sharp longsword and Galadriel.

Plus I have 14 !quickness...RNG gave me so many this game and all I had to use was one for ID. Guess that means getting great speed isn't that important either.

I could still die from emerald serpents and greater werewolves though. No rPois yet, not because I haven't found it yet, but I don't have room for it in my inventory. Going to just get it through my skill tree.

lights have to be spaced apart to add additional light. if you check the combat rolls, light sensitive enemies have a -1 penalty for each additional point of light on their square. if the enemy stands directly on a light, that counts as 1 + x points, where x is the light radius it grants.

Got forced to get song of slaying and momentum in throne room. Thought sharpness would be enough along with Galadriel in the offhand, but I guess not. Came to a stalemate with Morgoth before I took those two abilities. Think it's pretty critical to have a 3 dice weapon or branded 2 dice weapon, along with sharpness. [20, 5d4], no resists on Morgoth. Need extra dice to counter his regen. Need sharpness to do damage at all. Going to have to experiment more with it.

Not really sure what the optimal way to approach throne room is yet. I snuck around the back this time, and managed to isolate Morgoth and some of his trolls because originally I didn't want to make a huge ruckus with no song of slaying and all. Even with concentration, that wasn't enough to kill Morgoth. I could barely see his HP decrease even after buffing with !dex and !con.

If I want to build slaying, best way is to gather up a crowd in the middle of the chamber...problem is threats like Ungoliant and ancient spiders and gwathrauko stacking darkness. Even if you have a faenorian lamp and drop one of the floor, that might not be enough...and when everything goes black, it's pretty much over.

Anyways, was a fun game. Not planning on doing the ascent on this guy. Maybe some other time.

Just tested it again out of curiosity. So it turns out I wasn't paying enough attention to song of binding, because that made quite a difference. Without song of binding, I actually can slowly but surely chip away at Morgoth's HP (after everything else has died so concentration can kick in). No need for song of slaying or momentum. But I need to stun Morgoth or else the battle takes way too long and I'll run out of consumables. !con is a must since he hits 6d10. !dex doesn't hurt either. !str only if you have momentum or rapid attack, else it does nothing.

Oh yea, didn't get a masterpiece on purpose. Morgoth could have been a joke if I made one I bet.

The stealthless shadow cloak of Brilliance cracks me up. Was that actually cheaper than a +3 cloak?

Re: dark creatures in the throne room, it's less of a problem with that _earthquakes. I've taken out Ungoliant & Shelob before without ever seeing them. Had more protection than 2 though

On 25.5.2017 15:44 protopulse wrote:
+3 shadow cloak with light and no stealth bonus is 16 difficulty. +3 cloak is 14 difficulty. So it's not actually cheaper if you value your light radius. But +3 cloak requires artistry even if it's an artefact cloak. It's really the only way to get past 2 evasion on a cloak without artistry. Considering how low my protection was, I wanted to get every bit of evasion I can.

I really have to run a protection build to the throne room though. I feel like I would struggle a lot late game on protection builds because everything hits so damn hard. Troll guards, ururauko, and dragons in particular.

As for _earthquakes, do you just spam charges until everything's dead? I'm actually not sure how much damage _earthquake itself does. I think it also misses half the time? I mostly use it to stun enemies. The stun lasts longer than one you would get from a horn of thunder I think.

On 25.5.2017 15:52 protopulse wrote:
Oh yea, I actually got kind of screwed this run because I didn't realize spears could not be wielded in the off-hand. I needed an extra point in smithing to hit 32 smithing, had around 2k experience, and instead of grabbing an extra point in smithing, I took two weapon fighting. I thought it would allow me to use Galadriel in the off-hand for combat and a Spear of Vanyar in the off-hand when I'm smithing.

On 27.5.2017 03:01 ripforareason wrote:
the shadow cloak with no stealth trick is indeed a good one. also, having rapid attack to kill Morgoth is ideal. kind of disappointing that you didn't make a masterpiece with 19 points in smithing, killing morgoth in 7-8 turns is part of the fun.

On 27.5.2017 05:22 protopulse wrote:
Yea, that was a bit of a mistake on my part. I think I could have had an easier time if I tossed Galadriel and just used rapid attack with my sharp longsword. Or are one dice weapons actually viable against Morgoth? He has 20 evasion so you won't get a lot of crits imo...unless you had song of slaying or concentration with high perception.

I'll have to give it a try next time with a masterpiece, especially now that I got a run where I had my fill of post-throne room smithing.

On 28.5.2017 06:30 seraph wrote:
i *think* the stat penalties from rapid attack and two weapon fighting are applied separately. i.e. you get two attacks from your main-hand which gets one penalty, and one attack from your off-hand which gets the other penalty.

On 28.5.2017 21:00 protopulse wrote:
Yea, I believe that's how they work. The problem is you can't have a 3+ dice weapon on your offhand. Even if the penalties are the same, rapid attack is still strictly better than two weapon fighting for the throne room unless you had a branded off hand weapon or a lot of slaying imo.

On 31.5.2017 01:52 ripforareason wrote:
one dice weapons are fine... a +2-+3 deathblade (2-2.5lb) can wreck Morgoth with a damage ring if you have Momentum. The key is to have a lot of damage sides and subtlety if you want a 1-dice weapon. This is also why spears and glaives can be good against Morgoth, since they start at Xd9.
