A different type of smith. May not be worth it, since it cripples early game and makes me walk into traps all day. I don't have armour yet but I already found mithril. Interesting...

Not planning on getting loremaster either, but I need a bit of will or at least
a ,restoration before I eat questionable herbs and drink questionable potions.

Wondering why you went boots of free action vs boots of speed this early on?

It'd be an early XP sink into something that I really don't use much. Plus it takes 3 turns to kick in so you can't really abuse the speed in combat (I mean I suppose you could run in circles or something but I've never tried that and it seems like a waste of turns).

The main reason I can see someone using sprinting is on a stealth character to get out of LoS so vanish can kick in. Or to chase fast/fleeing enemies like cat assassins down. Or if you want to cancel out positional mistakes/flee the level. Also good on archers to kite.

All of those are nice, but they're not really my playstyle. I don't play much archers, and dwarves are horrid at archery. If there's fleeing enemies, I can take opportunist or shoot them down with arrows or throwing weapons. And I never reset a level if I'm playing a smith. If there's something 200 feet out of depth, I'll take him on anyways. Fleeing isn't really my thing.

I'd rather save that 500 XP for something else.

Free action is mostly for dragons and webs, but also helps against wights, which show up fairly early. It gives me the ID XP as well, and lets me know by process of elimination that any un-ID'ed boots is going to be treacherous paths. I don't always do it, but early free action isn't a bad thing.

Also I screwed up this build already, so I'm scrapping this character.

Interesting. I use sprint a lot with chargy characters. It's really quite useful to split packs and keep melee engagement favorable. Basically with charge, I try to do quick bursts of combat to drop one or two and then disengage to set up for another charge. It's quite different than the duelist hanging out in hallways.

It's a strategy I learned early on watching silstreamer's vids and so It's my most comfortable

Oh, I've been meaning to do one of those charge-based characters. I feel like I never use charge optimally so I don't take it much. But I can sort of see what you mean. If you can get multiple charges off coupled with sprinting, then it definitely sounds worth it to get both.
