650 feet is all cleared. Haven't found many artefacts this game unfortunately. I'm not sure what I'm doing with my experience, but I haven't faced anything that forced my hand yet, so that's why I pooled 8.5k XP.

Originally it was for song of sharpness, but apparently I can kill serpents just fine with my new battle axe of hador's house. I could get opportunist since I already have follow-through (was a misclick actually - meant to get zone of control for fighting werewolves - but it worked out, partly thanks to boldog). Or...get more smithing and hope I don't meet something that can bash my face in. Or get crowd fighting for cats. Or just get straight up more melee/evasion.

I'm trying to decide two things before I jump to 700 feet.
1) Is it worth taking leaping just to get a pair of mithril greaves [0,1d2]? I'm tempted to remake those into a mithril gauntlet of strength. My current battle axe is only 3.5 lb, but my rauko-slaying one is 4 lb. Can't do it without mithril.

2) I'm sitting on top of a _treasures (3 charge). Perhaps I should dump something to make room for it?

Early game was all over the place. Good start with finding the mithril gauntlets and an early forge. But then, I kept getting levels where half of the map was blocked by chasms or hidden doors. So I end up resetting a lot and fell behind in turn count. Then that false floor happened before I was able to explore much of 400 feet.

Mid game was rough too. Ulfang was a real nasty surprise, at 150 feet out of depth. Barely failed the stealth check. Once he was onto me, there was no backing out. 3 use forge on that level too, which I ended up using to make my loremaster dwarf mask. Ended up taking flanking/dodging, and hiding behind him so that his easterling archers and spies won't get too many free shots. Used !quickness and was prepared to heal/!dex as needed. He dropped +3 fine gauntlets of the forge, which I've been trying to keep safe as best as I can.

But it was Uldor that was the real scare. His crippling shot in addition with the backup fire from easterling spys, giants, and whispering shadows made it very difficult to actually focus him down. I usually don't have problems with him, but his crippling shot is really scary if he can get hits in. I probably should have led him further away from the whispering shadows tbh. I overestimated follow-through's ability to take them out faster than they can reproduce.

Then Duruin came along out of one of those 4 doors vaults. I hit the jackpot on the very first one. Had to use a ,restoration because I was strength drained (careless mistake) and grace drained. Then !quickness and some healing was enough. But again, whispering shadows were in the room I chose to fight him in (I led him away from the 3 other doors and their denizens into an open room where I could utilize flanking). Feels like they're everywhere. Could have gone bad if that fight dragged on longer than it did.

After that, I made a mistake of not having rCold when facing a Ringrauko, and he destroyed a !dexterity. Other than that, been using _foes on each level after I found it on 600 feet. Nothing of note on 650 feet.

O wow, I have enough XP to get smithing to 25 right here. And to get song of sharpness/aule, 10 song, with 1.5k XP to spare, or increase melee and evasion by 3 each, or get melee to +17.

Not sitting on a forge unfortunately. Just hoarding that XP. 10k now.

Just dove to 700 feet. Not exactly sure what the plan of action is. Really poor spawn spot smack dab in the middle of the level.

Grotesque at bottom right corner. Not sure I can kill him without sharpness, I do 3d8. He has 8d4 protection. Gonna be tough. But he's quite far away. I'll wake him up when I feel like it.

Delthaur to my top right along with a string of lackeys (cave trolls, werewolves, and emerald serpent). Definitely want to avoid that portion of the map until everything else is mostly cleared/explored. I think there's some sort of vault there. Don't have _rev, only _treasures and _foes.

A creeping horror, easterling spy, sapphire serpent, couple oathwraiths, shadows, lesser vampire, and some werewolves are the closest to my position, to my left, which...honestly isn't good news. But other than the shadow, none have noticed me since I closed both the door to my left and right.

Honestly, if the creeping horror wasn't there, this'd be probably pretty straightforward. Put a point in melee and evasion each, get song of sharpness and aule, clear left, go down and grab that mail corslet (which I hope is Fingon...at the very least it's fine and resilience). Grab the unidentified grey cloak. Kill the grotesque. Then move up and kill Delthaur, who I think may be guarding a forge.

Oh, and no _rev on this floor either. _Foes and _treasures aren't bad, but they also aren't _rev. :(

Man, the mystery is killing me what the cloak and mail corslet are. Very good chances they are artefacts because I haven't seen almost any of them this game. Could be potentially game-changing, assuming I don't die before I get a chance to pick them up.

Goodbye Hador and hello Thingol. And mail corslet turned out to be Fingon after all!

Apparently Belegwath spawned across a chasm that neither he nor I can cross. And the only thing _treasures detected across that chasm is a war hammer. He can keep that thing.

Gilim surfaced from same stairs I came out of, and I took care of him with no issue. Decided to heavily invest in melee/evasion in preparation for the big fight with Belegwath. And...it never happened. Other than the brawl right after I reached the level and another in a vault, there wasn't anything too threatening.

Unfortunately, I forgot to swap out my gauntlets of the forge, and now they are [-1,1d1] due to the creeping horror. I did remember to drop my staves and naugothrond axe at least. Didn't really have much of a choice except to melee the horror. Too many oathwraiths, shadows, and werewolves about.

If I take off my shield, I found out I can actually kill Grotesques without sharpness. Takes a little while, but 3d10 is no joke.

Pretty happy about my stats atm. (+20,3d8) and [+20,4-12], with an optional Dwarf Mask as a swap for rFear and and extra 1d2 protection, gauntlets of the forge for another 1d1 protection, and a cloak of protection for another. Reason I want protection right now is I'm worried about cats...think all of them have 1 hit dice with high melee, meaning protection should negate most of that.

Sitting on a 2 use forge right now. Probably going to make a mattock of belegost and an amulet of grace.

Not really seeing what else there is to make...

On 17.4.2017 15:25 protopulse wrote:
Oh yea, lost a Helm of True Sight to the creeping horror too. Honestly wouldn't have had room for it anyways. So it probably doesn't matter.

I'm way more pissed about the gauntlets of the forge. Hopefully I can find some mithril to recraft them into element-immune versions. I'd gladly give 300 XP for the peace of mind.

On 17.4.2017 15:27 protopulse wrote:
Hell, if I had mithril right now, I'd still make them. Not in a particular hurry to make that amulet of grace. Mattock is nice to have though.

On 17.4.2017 18:06 protopulse wrote:
Oh what, Fingon gives rFear? I really have little reason to ever wear my dwarf mask now except to ID stuff or for an extra bit protection. Also means I can pretty much replace my helmet with anything and it'd be an improvement. Sweet.
