The reason I was pooling so much XP was because I wanted to get song of sharpness ASAP.

And the reason my gloves of the forge <+2> are gone was because I tried to save it from a ruby serpent and threw it against the far wall, where it broke...I didn't think that was even possible. So instead of 30 smithing, I only have 28 smithing here if I dump all of my pooled XP into smithing.

I think I know what screwed me over this run now in terms of combat stats. I should have taken Greaves of Oredreth and kept it as a swap, and stuck to my +2 accuracy ring instead of the +1 ring of damage. Right now, my evasion and melee skills are both 12, which seems okay for 650 feet compared to my other runs. But after you factor in everything else, that +12 to-hit is just unacceptable for this depth. Now the question of how to rectify that before I meet Duruin or Delthaur...
