Just found a 2 lb (1, 2d6)[+1] longsword and a 2 lb (1, 2d6)[+1] mithril longsword both on the same floor, a few rooms apart. Which one should I use? Decisions, decisions.

Ahhh, ate an herb of visions.

I'd rather eat an herb of sickness than that!

750 XP until loremaster. Save me.

I used up my only potion of clarity earlier through use-IDing. Didn't think it'd take that long to get loremaster up running or I would have use-ID'ed the herbs first!

Just took out Othrod and he was kind enough to drop me some fine gauntlets of strength, and throwing axes of gondolin in case I meet more of his kind. Usually once I get characters to this point, the worst is over. Ofc, I still need to find some resists, mostly rFear and rFire. But those will come in time. If not I have a lot of !orcish liquors for fear and will probably find some !elemental resistance soon. I'm keeping around the sword of final rest for the slay bonus vs undead, the extra light vs. whispering shadows, and as a freedom of movement swappable.

Took a few runs before I could get a Edain to survive 250-300 feet, but I think the key is to grab a 2H early on, put all XP into combat thus delaying loremaster, and avoid sword spiders until you have a lot of EV and protection. Actively use-ID items...as if you weren't going to get loremaster at all. That bit of XP helps quite a bit.

I do feel like some of my earlier deaths were BS though. You walk into an unlit room, open a door, meet some orc soldiers and think, oh, I can take care of this. Suddenly you see Boldog and say, okay, let's back up into that corridor I came from, only to find there are 4 orc archers there now (pretty much pure chance) and because your stealth sucks (can't allocate XP there or else you won't be able to kill anything), they instantly notice you. Worse if you just arrived on a new floor and you have nowhere to retreat to except the way you came from. Except that place has a stairs and stairs tend to spawn enemies at the worst time.

Also orc warriors are really nasty. Can't believe they hit for 3d6. It's one thing if you have 41+ HP. It's another if you start with 34 or less. For that reason alone, I think evasion is more important than melee early on. So Beor probably have it a little easier than Hador.

And apparently sword spiders get 2 hits for every 1 of yours or something? (+8, 2d9) just absolutely insane that early. Used to kill them on Noldors but I close the door on them more often than not now.

(+1,2d6)[+1] swords were both found on 300 feet and were a great help. Definitely got lucky there.
