Dabbling in different builds for fun. Decided to go back to the artistry start. The early game feels great (although I still can't hit anything). But if I want a loremaster crown, that means getting either jeweller/enchantment, followed by artifice. That's a 1000+1500+500=3000 XP investment, all while my to-hit is 6 and evasion is 4.

I originally had a starting grace of 2, but you would need 4500 XP (9 points) just in smithing in order to reach 12 smithing for the first forge (the ideal for artistry builds imo). So I tuned back my combat stats to make it work. I didn't want to lower con because I think that's like what makes a dwarf, a dwarf.

Belegost smithing start is comparable to Noldor Feanor. Both has 3 grace and 1 smithing affinity.

This is more a test how well artistry start holds up. I remember it being pretty solid (and it is), but it's mid and late game I'm more concerned about, because you would still need enchantment/artifice/weaponsmithing/masterpiece if you want to go all in on smithing. That's a pretty hefty XP load.

I could give up...enchantment, in which case faenorian lamps of brightness, gloves of the forge, helms of clarity/defiance/true sight/brilliance, armor of resilience, crown of grace, boots of free action, and slaying weapons are all out.

Or...give up jeweller, in which case amulets of grace/con, lesser jewel of grace, faenorian lamps, and rings of damage/accuracy/evasion/strength/dexterity are out.

Enchantment's probably easier to give up. Everything in enchantment can still be made as an artefact, albeit using up 3 forge uses instead of 1.

Or I could pretend I'm pro and not get a loremaster crown at all...in which case I don't need artifice for a long time. By the time I need it, the experience will be fairly easy to come by. But getting the loremaster/lorekeeper skills in the perception tree is probably not a good use of XP here either with smithing already such a XP sink. So I'd have to deal with the ID minigame.

Dropped myself to 400 fee (due to not having leaping and no stairs down). Dealing with everything fine when suddenly whispering shadows. Going to refresh this level because I don't want to deal with wights (no source of restoration and my combat stats suck) or whispering shadows (no lanterns yet).

Orcobol got a lucky hit in and that was that. Probably should have stayed above 20 HP at all times, even with my protection.

Can't yet decide which start is superior. I do feel my dexterity is a bit too low to use heavy armour though. Going to try jeweller start next game and see how viable it is.

I could have lived there for sure. Just got sick of burning through so many consumables. I bet if I just laid down a _warding and then sat behind it to regen up there'd be no one to stop me. The room behind me was a dead end so no chance of anything sneaking up behind me.

Was also spamming _light to stun orcobal. Just wasn't enough. My major issue last game was that I just couldn't land any good hits. Every engage lasted what felt like minutes. It was just wet noodle fighting. So I got impatient and didn't want to waste any more turns. Took some risks.

I almost always find a fine longsword before a fine battle axe...I wonder if I'm just unlucky or if the game was made that way. Anyways, what end up happening is I end up with longswords instead of axes in my hands. Wasted 1 apt.

Mm, I suppose I'll retry it with 2 dex instead. Kinda hard to get dex up there when they start with -1.
