But not seeing exactly what I can get rid of either. Perhaps my gondolin weapon...I'm not afraid of orcs anymore and I doubt that bastard sword outdamages my longsword when I only have 2 strength. I can't use it to force trolls to run either. _Warding I haven't used much before, but it's probably one of the best staffs to keep around as a panic button...already dumped my !slow poison in favor of the great axe of final rest (my way to reliably deal with shadows since those gave me a lot of trouble in my last run). Dwarf mask I need as a swap for rF++ in addition to the Shield of Hador. Round Shield of Protection's better than Hador as long as there are no elemental threats. And I want strength/dexterity/constitution sustain because there's nothing I hate more than getting stat drained.

On 15.1.2017 18:41 protopulse wrote: But then I'm left praying for criticals. Actually deathblades don't make much sense to me. They have so much protection, evasion, and critical resistance that only those who use heavier weapons with the strength to back it up can kill them. Yet I feel like it's stealthy low-strength builds with subtlety that make the most out of them.
Am I really going to ignore my 4 strength and use a 1.5 lb weapon?
On 15.1.2017 18:49 protopulse wrote: <24, 1d10> vs. <18, 3d7>. Can the extra +6 to-hit reliably generate enough crits to make up for the lost damage?

On 16.1.2017 03:57 protopulse wrote: Okay, I'll keep it in my back pocket for now then. Either two handed fighting or rapid attack with a swap weapon would work. Momentum would require me to have 3 strength after the 3 penalty from two-weapon fighting i.e. 6 strength, so that won't really apply unless I'm potted or have an excess of strength gear.
On 16.1.2017 05:00 ripforareason wrote: Subtlety+rapid attack might be okay as a very-late-game ability, I've never really tried it. You would still want momentum though. That would bring you to 5/crit at 1d12x2. Might be pretty good but you would lose the resistances from your kite shield. One thing I don't like about subtlety is that the offhand slot is too useful to use nothing at all in, even an offhand weapon like Narsil or Galadriel is pretty useful.
On 16.1.2017 22:52 protopulse wrote: Agreed, which is another reason why I think subtlety best works with stealth builds. You get first strike, and hopefully enough damage to either one shot them or confuse them and finish them off before they can fight back. Otherwise, for extended combat, sword/shield or dual wielding would serve you better.
Maybe I'll see if I can dig up some logs of games where people used deathblades or subtlety. I'm not sure at what cut off point it starts to outdamage traditional multi-dice weapons, but as of right now, I see it mostly as a niche pick for low strength builds, dual wield/rapid attack builds where you artificially deflate your strength, or stealth builds where you can get guaranteed crits. It's basically an improved spear/shortsword.
On 16.1.2017 22:56 protopulse wrote: (and I haven't really played enough with those to be able to comment on them. I get too paranoid about not critting and being stuck with a 1 dice weapon. I do love their cousin, the glaive though. I often use them over bastard swords and battle axes. 2d12 vs. 3d8, and glaives have better to-hit than bastard swords iirc. they're unfortunately heavier as well.)
