Successor to Valor the First. Just found Studded Leather of Aegnor. Also have an unknown robe in my inventory with +3 evasion. I'm fairly certain it's an artefact, just not quite sure what it does yet. Since it doesn't auto-ID, I guess it doesn't give any stat gains or skills. So it must give resists of some kind...unless I'm going riposte build, or need whichever resist it carries, I don't think the robe will actually help me much. Aegnor's much preferable right now.

It's Aredhel.

Yea, I just got it to ID. Was wearing it whenever I didn't need the AC bonus or concentration from Aegnor. A grave wight tried to slow me, so it fully ID'ed. Freedom of movement and sustains grace...I guess it could be somewhat useful? I'm not really reliant on grace, and freedom of movement doesn't seem to do a whole lot for me. Only reason to take it is to resist slows from caltrops. Maybe it'll become more useful later on.

On the steps to 500 feet now...I know through self-knowledge that the 1d2 helm I'm currently wearing is terror. The 1d3 helm I do not know. And I'm too scared to use the brass lantern since I don't want to have to get curse breaking. I'm trying to save the charges on my _understanding so it doesn't become a crutch, and because I'm expecting a lot of hard to ID amulets and rings later. I've ID'ed =hunger and =sustenance at least.

I suppose I could use my _understanding to check what the extra staff is though. And if it's _sanctity, safely wield the lantern.

And really odd that I haven't found a bow of any sort all game. I really want to check what the special arrows I have are...

Found orcrist at 500 feet...that should make things a bit easier, as least as far as trolls and orcs are concerned.

On 6.1.2017 01:25 ripforareason wrote:
Aredhel isn't too bad. Check the Birch staff, it's probably sanctity. Or, do so after you check the other unused staff.

Wait I just realized I haven't killed any uniques this game yet?

On 6.1.2017 01:26 protopulse wrote:
Ah I checked Birch staff, it didn't ID through normal means, so I figured it was worth a shot. It was either summoning, entrapment, or sanctity I figured. And it turned out to be summoning. Oh well, at least 100 experience for me.

On 6.1.2017 01:55 wobbly wrote:
_sanctity is normally common enough to find 2 (unless you wear a cursed item, then of course there is none). When you find the 2nd, empty 1 to find the charges. 2-4 it's sanctity. Otherwise the level is now full of nasties or traps.

On 6.1.2017 02:10 protopulse wrote:
I guess just unlucky this game then. Been clearing every floor since 300 feet, and haven't yet seen sanctity. Also blew all my charges on my _understanding (1 to ID the staff - used it on an herb which turned out to be sustenance, 1 to ID another staff which turned out to be summoning, and the last one to ID amulet of adornment - I knew it was adornment due to _self knowledge and there is no other way to ID that item, so I figured I'd use the staff on it so I don't have to carry the junk around). Only 3 charges. I'm still holding onto the staff in hopes of finding a _recharging soon.

Strange game in general. I had to stick with a wooden torch until just now (found mundane lantern) because I didn't want to risk the lantern being cursed. Also didn't even meet a single unique until 500 feet, where I met two in a row.

I really love Aegnor. +1 to to-hit AND free concentration? Yes please.

Also found orcrist on 500 feet. No brainer to swap to it. +4 evasion from Orcrist due to parry and +3 evasion due to dodging means a lot of ripostes.

Oh and I FINALLY found my first bow. Don't know what is the enchantment on it yet, but if I had to guess, probably Nargothrond.

ID'ed my helm of clarity opening a small steel chest, which held Belthronding and another unidentified double fine longbow that is (+1,2d6). What a ridiculous floor this has been...

Somewhat regretting not getting loremaster again...unidentified great spear, 2 bows, and a brass lantern. Really don't want to lug around all this stuff but I need to ID them so I get the experience for it...

Inventory troubles are no more!~

Found an orc and a sulrauko to test my bows and unidentified staff (turned out to be slumber). Still have the lantern and a boot to ID (I think the boots might be danger actually...). Gonna find a caltrop trap to test if they are freedom of action. If not, danger is guaranteed, which should self-ID after a while.

Now the reason I think it's danger is because I'm looking at Duruin right now...

On 6.1.2017 02:53 protopulse wrote:
Oh, and I stripped half naked and turned off parry and riposte to let a distended spider poison me in order to ID the mail corslet of venom's end (which I had soft-ID'ed already).

Aaand, Duruin's dead. Used up a potion of quickness and herb of healing. Too bad he didn't drop anything useful. Also stepped on caltrops and the boots effect didn't trigger. Danger boots for sure...

Found a _recharging so now my _understanding has 3 charges again. Hooray!

Cloak ID'ed as warmth on 650 feet in my first encounter with a Ringrauko so that's good.

But I guess for every good thing that happens, there has to be something to counteract it, because I'm now stuck with a cursed -1 ring of damage.

I still can't get my helm of terror to ID even though I sat there and let a giant hit me for like half my HP.

On 6.1.2017 03:46 protopulse wrote:
Lurking horror destroyed a great spear I was going to try to ID...was saving it for until I met an undead creature so I could be sure it wasn't final rest (also damaged my unidentified helmet and boots - which I believe are terror and danger). All things considered, I lucked out. It could have gone for my boots of speed or helm of clarity/true sight.

I hate corrosion traps and lurking horrors!

Danger finally self-ID'ed...

Okay, I figured out how to deal with creeping horrors. Since it's slow, just kite it and never let it hit you.

On 6.1.2017 04:35 protopulse wrote:
Finally found a staff of sanctity at 600 feet! Got rid of that -1 damage ring for good.

I'm in a good spot in terms of item identification. No charges left on my _understanding, but almost everything is ID'ed. I found a {special} robe which I suspected could be permanence, and danced around with a barrow wight to check if it was (worst scenario it wasn't and I could just pop a !restoration since I was grace-drained from earlier anyways). It turned out my hunch was right, so now I really don't have to worry about stat loss with that as a swap item.

Actually found a mail corslet of resilience earlier and decided to dump it in favor of Aegnor, which is turning out to be one of my favorite artefacts ever. Lots of AC without having to sacrifice to-hit, and lets me get Concentration without having to go through Focused Attack (which I never use and makes everything else in the perception tree more costly than it should be).

On 6.1.2017 04:38 protopulse wrote:
Have an amulet still that I have no idea what it could be. My hunch is regeneration.

And a mail corslet that I'm quite sure is blight. Just have to find a venomous spider or werewolf now...

On 6.1.2017 04:45 protopulse wrote:
Oh, the lantern from earlier was {brightness} thankfully. Found 2 cursed rings of damage now...had to use 2 charges of _sanctity. I'm going to stop trying those out. I'm happy enough with my [1d2] and rFire rings.

On 6.1.2017 04:54 protopulse wrote:
As far as I can tell, {terror} is really hard to ID. I ended up just spending a charge of my _understanding on it so I didn't have to lug it around.

Of the cursed gear, {fury} is now ID'ed. {treachery}, {vampiric}, and {flickering shadows} left...I hope my staff of sanctity has enough charges.

On 6.1.2017 05:12 protopulse wrote:
Skill-wise, I think I'm set for the most part. Could go for song of sharpness then put the rest of my experience into melee and evasion. Could also go for two weapon fighting, although preferably I'd like to find a source of strength first. Gloves of strength? Ring of strength?
