I don't understand what the difference is between critical & power strike, the combat mechanics of this game seem tricky to work out.

One thing you may not have seen in the help files yet is what the number after the dice on weapons is, it's the "force" of a weapon and acts like a multiplier to damage which is what power strike amps up.
