I've been enjoying this variant quite a bit lately. This is my third character to get past level 5 (Is it just me, or is early-game much more difficult than it is in Vanilla?). I've been using priestly magic quite liberally. Holy Flame is a nice little spell, and Reckoning of Metal can take out almost any automaton I faced in one hit. Exceedingly helpful.

As I started to max out my priestly skills, I decided to branch out into mystic spells, as there were a few utility spells that I wanted (why is there no light spell for priests?). Any stat damage taken from spellcasting could be easily healed with the last priest spell in the second book.

Unfortunately for me, I got a little too used to typing "mbc" to cast Holy Flame (yes, I know, I should have been inscribing my spellbooks). After buying a couple copies of the second arcane spellbook, I accidentally typed "mbc" (thus casting the arcane identify spell)l... and got an insta-death thaumic surge. Ouch. Isn't that a little over the top?

hahahahaha. sorry. :-/
Yeah, it is, and I'm glad to hear your comments. This one right here is going to make me add a saftey valve (Are you sure you wish to temper with powers so far beyond your ken? y/n) for the future. That death was not due to your ability to play the game certainly. I am also aware of the hardness of the early game and have been toneing it down, and will continue. The endgame appears to be exceedingly easy also.

As to your question about magic, the error is in the code not haveing the saftey valve. There is definely cool power in magic, but (thematically, for the era) magic is a dark and mysterious force, and those who plumb its secrets without proper protection end up going mad, or worse. Sorry. Glad to see that you're playing mages. :-)
