The story:
After numerous retries, even with version 3.4.2, I have a Hugo$oul successor with a humbling start (see below). I completed a couple of usual town quests - Thieves, Orc camp, Old Man Willow, Dark elven lords, and Tengu Swords. The timely possession of a Sabre-tooth tiger, starting at clvl 17, made quick work of the latter three of these listed.

Hugo$oul 5995's humbling start:
At the start, I ended up retreating to Outpost after being unable to get a Naga corpse right away. I even skipped some nearby Newt corpses I could've possessed. I sold the nearly empty Wand of Magic Missile (1 charge remaining). I bought 23 more Flasks of Oil, then I had 28 Flasks of Oil altogether. Then I proceeded to the Camelot, where I got a Salamander as my first possession at clvl 4.

Completed some more quests - DQ1, Mimics, Sewer, and Logrus master without a hitch. I had a nice stint at the Telmora Arena. No early-game Logrus master, though. Having done those, I jumped into the Glass castle as usual, hoping to get a Logrus master sooner or later.
