It is a well known formula; but don't worry, it'll get better as those things start getting fixed-- and maybe as I get any slaying bonuses from tonberryness? I still don't remember seeing those, but I remember hearing about them.

CL21 and apparently I just came to understand Ungoliant a little better; I now "sometimes feed off the light around" me, courtesy of a Weird Fume's chaos breath. The source got suspended and timed out shortly thereafter.
I have found a stone, which in a non-randart game would be the stone of Lore, but all the cooler effects are annihilated through random generation, so the marvelous convenience of infinite Identify isn't something I'll get no matter how many randart stones I find.
All is not bad though; I found a ring which grants rConf, which also grants some rAnnoy as a side effect.

The Pike of Concentration (2d5) (+2,+12) (+4) {InDx/* Til-i-arc} (Concentration giving dex =] )
then luckily found Azog within a few hundred turns, unluckily he was sealed in a vault, luckily he was at the beginning of the vault. Annoyingly he hit a lot harder than I expected for being 4 levels below me, soothingly he gave me another rod of detection. (Only started hallucinating after.)
Towned, lost the rod of detection to Robin Hood, but I was careful where I moved overland so as not to un-load him, and reclaimed it!
Visited Angband and did some dangerous vaulting; kept going back and trying to kill a level 40 red dragon and stone giant. Spent about 20 teleports and got the dragon (also weakling unique), then gave up on the giant with its boulders and shatter-tastic melee attacks.
Upstairs, I found an arty cloak and hat (Hyper Nature), the hat granting levitation (also sInv, freeing my ring slot). So after buying a Rod of Healing from the black market, I went to the Arena as a shortcut to Zul (a Master Mystic troubled me, but that was it).
Zul removed both light eating and light making before curing the hallucinations; I'd thought it removed things in the order they were gained, but the source says it's random. At least I still have the ability to cause earthquakes.
Horrifying then wandered the continent in a daze for many years months a day, during which he entered the volcano, a vault within, the bottom of a labyrinth, and the lonely mountain...doing what tonberries do best.
Somewhere in there I picked up this
The Pair of Metal Shod Boots 'Registor' [6,+7] (+3 to speed) {SpStInCh;El;Fa Tetsu-geta of Flame}
and a +6 ring of speed (bringing me to +11 average).
The Vault quest was disappointingly easy ("I was worried about this? These are 15 levels below standard!"), but Sting Zombie Claw turned out well;
The Small Sword 'Zombie Claw' (2d8) (+20,+11) (+3 to infravision) {CnIf;PoDkNt;Si|V Sting}
But quest ended for me when the puyos I had let multiply went off; I wonder if it's ever practical to use something like those-- getting a good one to fill up a quest level for huge damage.

Considering the ease of the vault quest, I moved onto the next in the chain-- it was almost easier, except one turn where an emperor wight and a couple other wights all successfully cursed me at once-- they'd hit the amulet of Mr. T too, draining mana. Found enlightenment, healing (3), curing (5), a point of constitution, and The Cloak of Champion [1,+20] {So;SiLu Merry} (house junk).
It was at this point I noticed I still didn't have any fire resist, and so it's back from quests to vaulting. (A blkmkt wisdom potion while supplying, but it only gave me 0.6 of a point.)
I chose the Icky Caves for my vaults, and after some supplies and more junk artifacts, I dived to the bottom and Ubbo-Sathla was not the most dangerous thing; that would have been the Seraph and the summoned Death Quazit that were in the same 2-wide, ~20-long hallway...which was also the only teleportable space in the place.
Then the worst part of all was when that purple 'h' unqiue seemed to appear out of nowhere and surround me with a bunch of strong monsters including a fallen angel; I got shot with mana bolts a few times before reaching the stair.
Finally, what was nearly as bad was the Great Crystal Drake, Dark Elf Sorceror, and Magma Elemental guarding the pattern vault I was using to round out my loot and leave; I really, really need fire resist.
I think I'm going to get it from this;
a Trident (Defender) (1d8) (+10,+11) [+8] (+3 to stealth) {Sl;AcElFiCoPo;FaSiLv(In}
even if I have to sacrifice some wisdom for it, it's unwise to go without.

And apparently Evil Rune traps are dangerous at this ~depth, starting with the lloigor I met doing the level's trap spiral (less dangerous in melee), followed by a demilich in the center arena-- which summoned more lesser (my level) undead, followed by a dracolich during the second fight (which proceeded to teleport off, thank rng). There was also a crypt thing and a dark elf sorcerer somewhere in there-- and the latter gave me a Mushroom of Restoring to keep going however many hundreds of turns it was!
I know I should have bailed several times, maybe dozens, but I was tempted by how every ~7 shots I got off at Bull Gates, he took another lasting debuff... and I still had teleport scrolls... by the time he was slowed below my speed I was only drained 6 points total, and by the time I could get three shots to his one I was keeping from starving with potions and hoping dearly my next teleport didn't land me on one of the super-dangerous critters.
Somehow, after the target unique was down, the *liches weren't quite so hard; both of them got suspended after breathing/storming me and weren't able to recover in time.
Before that I visited a bunch more dungeons, killed Arthur Pendragon in self-defense, got a bit farther in the arena, chugged a whole bunch of stat potions (none of them wis, most con and int), and finally got an elemental protection armour that covers all base elements.

BLKMKT provided scroll of Logrus; unsure if it would damage me or not. Visited Angband for another quest level, giant's hall for a few randarts, then the mountain for a greater greater vault; generally pretty shallow at around DL25-30, but for me that means at least a few monsters around level 50-60, and I need to be careful about watching out for those ones that teleport out of their vaults.
The GGV was an odd thing; it required tunneling through a lot of rock to enter, but it also seemed to have broken places among its internal permanent walls. It wasn't terribly hard to clear the parts I wanted to clear though; collecting more rods, randarts, and doing both pattern lines there. Notables include the Jingasa of Merinera (no matter that it mostly just grants con), the steel helm 'White Snow' (activating for frost breath), and the Gloves of Cleanness (which which grants and activates for resist poison; must be made of those sanitizing wipes).
Splurged the money I gained from non-randart things on rods; the first one was another rod of healing (which heals for more than my hp), followed by multiple detection, recall, an enlightenment, and an escaping (and junk rods). I should have fewer close calls, now.
Went back to mountain, and Meneldor the Swift teleported out of his vault and summoned a bunch of giant eagles along with Gwaihir the Windlord. I slew the law drake I had been working on, dropped to half hitpoints, and teleported near the entrace to the vault; the great birds had left it relatively ungaurded, 'cept for nexus hounds and a hunting horror. (And of course, since you can't teleport into these vaults, I'm protected from them suddenly dropping in.)
So they found me again (not suddenly) while I was IDing loot, and I dropped to half hp many times while they pinballed me around the entire area level, and then I remembered my Shield of Time and they all got flux capacitated to death. Notable randart: the dwarven shovel 'Crash of Rhinos' (fr bonus loudness).
Third trip to the mountain met a lloigor (which briefly summoned v's) and a rock giant; luckily earthquakes don't effect Pattern tiles, or I would have been out some of the loot they were guarding and my fastrecall. The randart this time was not only notable, but also something I'll use;
The Star 'Wizard Eye' (+2 to speed) {SpCh;CoBlFe(Ch Elendil}
The fourth and current trip to the mountain found not merely a pattern vault, but a huge pattern vault; a GGPV, if you will. I'm not actually sure I want to clear it; Ultimate Beholder sounds bad, along with a bunch of other things whose levels aren't displayed because none of my characters have ever killed them. (I have CL34 now.)

A random ancient black dragon had dropped a potion of new life during that visit, although I don't really understand the great attraction they have for other players.
Since I felt I had gone a bit too deep in the mountain, I went to the lonely mountain to give it company. It was more annoying than the other trips I've done, because I foolishly tried two vaults instead of one; I ended up leaving a bunch of ego items, and I lost a couple of my perception staves because I used them with a full inventory at the center of a Pattern that already had items in all four of its spaces. Apparently items only stack when dropped by creatures.
On a similar note, I won't use an inventory slot on tele scrolls for a bit, since I have the rods.
Second trip found a vault with a Great Bile Wyrm entombed in rock at the end of a rock-filled permarock hallway; it forgot how to breath within the first few rounds of combat, courtesy of Time Shield. It gave me the partial plate armour 'Phantom' and...CL 35. Suddenly IDing stuff goes so smoothly! (E.i. 80% of stuff just gets autodestroyed.) Only tested another hall of said smoothness before an Elder Storm Giant walked up behind me. Spoil sport.
Beginning to get usable amounts of Restore Mana and Curing; hadn't yet had a character with more than a few.
Third trip used up most my new curing on a Jabberwock; nearly double my level, but not there yet. A few more randarts and I'm noticing some name repetition.
Didn't get to have a fourth trip because it turns out something gave me the Moronic mutation. Maybe it was sightseeing the eldritch horrors again? Anyway, I took the shortcut through the arena again and it was far more horrifying than I remember; I entered beside a planetar, then bounced around to death beasts, sanity blasting uniques, and things that could breathe to one-shot me. One death beast sent me to darkred Weak status in a single hit, and it took long to find the upstaircase-- the whole level was a lot bigger than I remembered.
On the overland trip to Zul, I got to take a look at the new wilderness vaults, and I'm now completely sure that chests were nerfed into oblivion; they grant no items, and only piddling amounts of money-- considering the second basic house gave me a potion of intelligence right beside it's ~120gp chest (and the others were at least potions I picked up), that's a pretty huge gulf of effective depth. Aside from that, the new vaults are neat; I ran into a 'trading post' general store that gave me food to last the trip, as well as a temple and black market, then I met up with a sorcerer guarding (what turned out to be) a wand of disintegration. What's also neat is the rotation means I don't instantly recognize everything anymore. Although, what's less neat is how the effect of the graveyard vault is diminished since it can't appear in the same place for day and night versions; the reference can easily be lost.
Mountain vaults included one with a sleeping Lord of Chaos, another one of those monasteries (it had what was at least the third book of death realm-- didn't bother to melee all the monks for it), and another den ruled by storm troll (which devolved into a troll king after hitting me a bit).
The cure mutation service removed the bad mutation first thing-- although, it's not like I ever remember to use my earthquakes. This character not Maran Gor.
Recharged my perception staves in Zul (they were drained to 0 during all the excitement) and upon leaving I discovered Meng Huo had decided camp the main clearing. This wouldn't really be noteworthy, but he filled that clearing with 'p's, and during the Time Wave slaughterfest something dropped 'the augmented chain mail of Harmony' (cursed; it activates for Invoke Logrus :] ), others dropped a bunch of ego items (nice protection ring), and Huo himself dropped 'the cloak of the Wizard'.
This time I made sure to visit the anti-magic caves before recalling back to the teleconnected towns.

First turn; detect monsters -> lose a point of wis to Bokrug.
Later turns; cleared the top half of the level, since it's mostly full of melee things without any notable tricks-- got dex and int stat potions, and dex went up by /03 and I'm 01 from max; tonberryness bad for hitting things sometimes. One It came up while I was fighting a Cleaner, providing the iron helm 'Defender'. This is the only randart I remembered to write down the source of; I filled my inventory.
Further turns; got ambushed by all three ant queens in succession, they fail to do anything but destroy some useless ego items.
Some more turns; finish off the last It, because apparently one died to exploding ants.
Even more turns; start clearing the bottom half of the level, beginning with Bokrug on the far left; turns out they have a trick where they will come just barely into LOS for you to shoot at them, then move back out, then repeat-- thus triggering the sanity-blasting effect as much possible. At this point I'm down 5 points of wis, but mostly because of compulsively using monster detection with a lot of sanity-blasters on the map.
Next few turns; I run into a Jurt/Spectral Tyrannosaurus double team and decide to teleport.
End of theme; instead meet up with Gachapin; defeat all three by luring them around-corners/into-trees, but somehow did not get any mutations from all the chaos and toxic waste.
I begin heading toward a Jurt, but while I was checking his position from the other side of the trees, I notice there's a master lich where I teleported away from. How did that get there? I kill the Jurt (he has keep-away ai, but he seemed to favor dancing around while being shot instead of shooting; appropriate), and said lich comes to visit; it didn't get to cast any significant spells, but it drained all my perception staves and 3 dex (also, down another couple wis, and I'm 30k xp farther away from next level).
Next, I start trying to lead the Dagons into a good position, and they don't come; but the spectral tyrannosaurus does, and it turns out it can breath for half my hp. I teleport away again, begin to wonder if I can finish this, then go right outside the range of the 'saurus and start stacking time effects; it breathes twice at something out of LOS, then just slowly marches toward me, gets suspended, and returns a 1 to death. (Used a Restore Mana to keep shooting, though.)
Finally, I spend a bunch of CCW, Curing, and Clarity on the Dagons; they were damageful, but didn't pull any tricks. Except, of course, for how they were partly responsible for draining so much of my wis-- I'll need to find something that sustains it soon.

Anyway, back to Angband; I don't remember what level the next quest monster is on, but I hope it's close to DL30.
Result: Quaker, Master of Earth on DL38.
Then, detecting exactly where it is, I proceed to go check out a vault in the other direction since apparently all the critters in there were lower level. This estimate did not count the shadower that was actually a Death Beast; I apparently have serious trouble with these things, because once again I lost another 40k temporary experience, all my perception staff charges, and nearly starved. (Oh, also GHB.)
There wasn't food in the first vault, so of course I did the second one; despite having uniques (Kokuo, new centipede) and vampire lords and things, it went breezily. I even found a couple wands of clone monster and fought a team of troll kings (which restored my xp quickly). Two randarts, *Healing*, CL36, and an ego blade of chaos.
Quaker turned out to be easier than any of the other things I did; he was too slow (and slowed) to close in melee, and I have good acid resist. He gave 'excellent' items I didn't have room for and couldn't fully id.
Decided to take a hike to the Forest...by the route from Telmora going through tasty hot lava and healthy treacherous mountains. One randart, one statue, and consumables brought back.
Began the dive through the forest, and interesting rooms makes it even harder than interesting rooms makes most things; vault walls are often replaced with trees or nothing, releasing all the critters.
Met up with a magic mushroom field, and this is the first time I've been polymorphed this game, and since I play monster races, it might be the first time in poscheng too; now I know how much damage tonberryness gives me. About halfway down I found a level-filling Pattern vault; not great for quickly going down, but sufficient. Fought a bunch of things, got use out of Breathe Time, and, as usual, collected more loot than I knew what to do with (incl. 1 randart). I started recalling out, and noticed that Shelob was on the bottom of the detected creatures list; plenty of vault creatures and uniques more dangerous than the dungeon guardian. While I waited, I gained a few thousand experience using Time Wave on all of Shelob's summoned spiders, and realized I could probably kill Shelob in only 5-6 rounds-- next trip, though.
Notable object; a cord armour that gives reflection and some resists-- using it even if it means losing a few stat points.
Second trip found Shelob sitting beside one of the open vaults, but that didn't slow me down at all, since the only really dangerous thing this time was Sheer Heart Attack, the Bomb Hand, and it was safely blocked in by creatures in another vault. One randart dagger, a poison needle, and I walked right into the neighboring vault to pick up Healing and an un-ided rod, but then...
"You see a Rod of Mana Bolts. Auto-destroying Rod of Mana Bolts." Hahawha?
Turns out when I tried changing the autodestroyer to destroy ammunition, the part targeting crossbow bolts also hit this. RIP rod.
