I decided my song build was working well enough to earn my name. I've learned a lot about it with the last few characters I killed.

Mastery isn't carrying me QUITE as hard as I'd like it to. Things often have an excess will of 1-3 which is absolutely unacceptable with my current defenses. I've also been unable to kill any uniques, which is ALSO completely unacceptable. I came really close to killing Othrod, but I ran out of voice while he was on *.

I've found a Longsword of the Feanorians and I am REALLY tempted to pick it up. I can't handle the enemies, but I'll also get a rather sizable xp influx just from seeing them and over time I should be able to benefit from the grace boost.

That said, without resists or a good enough song it would be exceedingly risky and I'm not sure it's worth it. I've already seen hatchlings, I shudder to think what encountering a REAL dragon would lead to in my current condition.

Dragons aren't really a big deal because you just have to keep them out of LOS. Werewolves and raukar are super nasty for these kinds of builds. It's even worse bc the song strength decays with distance, and faster monsters give you less time to lock them down. At 23 song, I would probably turn on elbereth as soon as something got within 2 squares of me.

Sure looks fun though!

I got one-shot by a dragon as soon as I opened that door. My end position makes me think that I went to hit "l" and missed it before I hit the numpad button leading to a elf barbeque. But I have no idea because it happened so fast.

I should have been paranoid and had my resists on for when I wasn't fighting. Next time I'm doing that. Without resists, I'm mastering before I open every door.

Ghaha I haven't laughed this hard at a dump comment in months.

Well, fire resist isn't paranoia. They are really out to get you, after all. Imo, this char looks a bit intoxicated by the power of his song, not even bothering to change damaged armour, to repair dex drain despite the means to do so and to wield a shield, which really has no downsides when wielding a longsword.

(In principle I believe archery works better when you don't have any evasion at all. The 1-3 excess will for uniques would then be no big deal, they just make an odd move before waiting the next five turns instead of being a most likely critical attack you are unable to dodge. If you go into melee get at least some melee, evasion up, they are cheap - your last two points in song easily buy you 5+ melee or 8+ evasion.)

The drained dex wasn't all that big a deal. It was only 1 less normal, and the things I had to get rid of it(dex potion, restore herb) would have been more useful in other situations. If my grace got drained then I wanted the more powerful restoration to be available.

Armor was also super tight. That cloak of warmth was the only cloak I saw the entire game, and I didn't find any decent heavier armor after I got ways to compensate for the to-hit loss.

I should have switched in my ring of frost once I got the longsword. I was using the ring of damage because it went well with my scepter. The longsword I found this floor, and I dropped my battle-axe for it. I hadn't found a shield after I got the scepter otherwise I'd have been using it.

All in all a very fun run. The furthest I've gotten, and most of it was tense.
