Probably my best character to date. Getting pretty tough. Likely end up dead soon. Recommendations on how I should spend my exp moving forward? I feel like I should probably focus on raising my stats a bit before buying more abilities, as they're getting fairly pricey.

Take Anglachel (two-handed) and raise your melee and evasion.

Yeah, it just dropped right as I stopped for the morning and made the dump file.

You recommend ditching the shield which is giving me a 2nd instance of fire/cold resist to wield Anglachel 2 handed? Will a single instance of those resists get me by?

On 26.7.2014 01:48 Raajaton wrote:
Definitely tearing shit up with Anglachel. Having a much easier time slaying uniques that have killed me in the past. I've never been this deep before, so I'm not entirely sure what to expect before the end. Am I strong enough to dive straight down to 950 now and start farming up for the throne room, or should I try to stay a little shallower beefing up first?

On 26.7.2014 03:24 Raajaton wrote:
Threw caution to the wind and dove down to 950'. It's been crazy intense, but I haven't found much loot yet to show for it. I managed to take out a handful of uniques, though I nearly died several times. I've blown through a lot of consumables, and I'm basically now completely out of healing. If I don't manage to find more soon, I'm royally screwed. This is a blast though!

On 26.7.2014 03:45 Isilme wrote:
Besides what taptap mentioned, another source of light would be helpful, and can help you free up some slots on equipment. So keep your eyes peeled. If light becomes a problem, remember to look towards your song tree for help in that area.

The other thing would be a source of fear resist. Herbs of rage would help. I would assume you have none because you've been using them.

Its probably been very tough for you because of you've been carrying that feanorian shortsword around, and now anglachel. But on anglachel at least, the drawback is well worth it.

imo, I'd get Sprinting. This helps to keep space and is useful for escapes, AND definitely useful for getting away from Vallach, one of the most hated Balrog uniques of Sil

And I'd stock up on consumables as much as possible, especially for the first trip to the Throne Room.

On 26.7.2014 04:00 Isilme wrote:
You seem in pretty good shape now. Though you can probably safely ditch the potions of true sight since you already have a helm of true sight. Would still emphasize on having another light source, as you can drop a lamp on the floor to light the surrounding area. though what you have now is already plenty to work with.

On 26.7.2014 05:15 Raajaton wrote:
Yeah it's been pretty rough. This game has been really rude to me in terms of consumables. I haven't found an herb of rage probably since 400', and i have found an astonishingly low amount of miruvor and healing potions. The couple I've found I've reluctantly had to use to stay alive. I'm almost completely out of time to stock up now, min depth is now 900'. I'm going to likely be going into the throne room vastly unprepared, and I don't even really know what to expect. This has been crazy fun so far though.

Other things this run has screwed me on, I've never found a single Staff of Treasures I see people talk about, and I've never found a Staff of Freedom. This Staff of Foes I have now is the first one I've found all game, and I just got it recently. RNJesus really doesn't like me very much does it?

Great, weren't you just asking for advice at 650ft. - now look at you. Well, nothing forces you to go down just yet. So, you can try to look for more potions / herbs / staffs. But yeah, everyone who finds a sharpness weapon has no right to complain.

Given the amount of strength potions you have, I would consider taking momentum as your last ability.

How did you kill Delthaur, Tevildo etc. you had quite low melee and evasion back then, they must have hit you pretty hard?

On 26.7.2014 15:43 Raajaton wrote:
I was making extensive use of buffs. I think for Delthaur I popped every buff I had and wiggled around him in an open room to take advantage of dodging/flanking to take him down. I believe I had to heal once or twice, but got him down.

Tevildo and his cohort I think I basically 2 shot to be honest. they were chasing me down a narrow corridor, and I know at least one of them I smacked them for heavy damage, and then backed off with control retreat and got a bit crit and he just vaporized. His buddy died more or less the same way. They don't appear to have much health.

You're right, that sharpness weapon is a fuckin beast.

On 27.7.2014 04:01 Raajaton wrote:
Success!!! My first time entering the throne room ended up being my first win! I made no attempt to actually kill Morgoth, as I'm pretty sure I wasn't nearly prepared to do so anyway, and I only grabbed 1 of the Silmarils. I was afraid that I was going to die of starvation during the ascent. I was constantly hungry and had run out of food. I ended up taking off my necklace that had regeneration on it to try to limit the amount of food I needed to find on my way up. The ascent was a lot more difficult than I expected honestly, and almost died a few times. I had to fall through some chasms a couple of times when I was getting boxed in and had no way to get to stairs.

All in all it was a lot of fun, and I'm super excited to get a winner. I've only been seriously playing Sil for about a month and a half, but I've devoted the majority of my free time to it. Most of my characters have been dying between 400-600', with the occasional making it down to 800+ but only due to rather desperate diving. I really love this game, and I want to start experiment with other types of builds next.

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice and nudged me in the right direction. It helped a lot.

Congratulations!

I had this pretty similar char recently heavily relying on regeneration. Apart from switching regeneration in and out I was surviving on bad herbs (they too give 250turns nutrition, if you have the stomach/will to resist weakness, sickness, terror etc.) and surplus restoration in between. For Elessar I would probably consider even taking the food saving ability from the will tree in your setup (even if you pay one ability, you get constitution and another ability and regeneration in exchange).
