Took a few practice runs to get a feel for the different skills and abilities. This was my first character to get deeper than 500'. I took it real slow and cautious, ran away from dragons and horrors when necessary, took Rauko-Bane, and tried my best to conserve potions. I diligently read forum threads many times and (perhaps most importantly) followed silstreamer's (debo's?) newbie guide on YouTube. I used (roughly) the same build as he did in the stream––heavy on evasion and melee––and took plenty of will for damage mitigation.

In the end, a few herbs of rage and a high-level Song of Slaying later, Morgoth fell, and I got past Carcharoth by the skin of my teeth. Amazingly fun game, short and sweet, requiring much forethought and decision making. The designers really ought to be proud of this piece of work.

This is my first time beating an Angband variant all the way through, so consider these comments as coming from an outsider's perspective:
-Two Weapon Fighting appears to have done me very little good––it's really useful only if you get a great second-hand weapon, which I suppose is the intended design. It was fun to dual-wield Orcrist and Glamdring frequently, but to punch through high-level armor, it seems you really need either a great light weapon with something like Subtlety, a single really heavy weapon, or the willingness to use Sharpness in a pinch (which I didn't figure out the usefulness of until the ascent).
-I still seem to have taken a lot of poison damage in spite of Poison Resistance. Is it working as intended? I didn't figure out until very late in the game that stacking resistances can be necessary.
-Momentum: not terribly useful unless you're using lighter weapons. Am I right?
-Whirlwind Attack was just for fun. Next time I'll pick it up earlier if I can.
-Finesse seemed to do me no good this time around, except that it's a prereq for Zone of Control, which was extremely useful. Still, grabbing Whirlwind Attack earlier next time might be an interesting way to keep my damage output high.
-Saithnar is one hell of a weapon. I don't know how I would've taken down Morgoth without it.
-Singing seems downright essential during the Morgoth fight, but otherwise it's only situationally useful (e.g., Trees to fight darkness monsters, Sharpness against serpents and horrors). Then again, maybe that's the point.
-Raukar and dragons are beastly. I don't think I could've won this one without Rauko-Bane. The other banes seem odd to me. Does Orc-Bane do anyone any good? How about Wolf- or Wraith-Bane? More high-level monsters of these types would make these much more appealing: as it stands, it only seems like you should take Orc-Bane (for example) if you're having trouble in the early game, and Wraiths can be avoided without much difficulty. Vampire- or Cat-Bane might be a reasonable ability: they certainly gave me enough trouble!
-I only encountered a handful of forges throughout the game––Smithing seems like a huge and very risky investment. Perhaps forges should appear at fixed intervals (like the fixed forge at 100')?
-I was leaning toward Lore-Master at first, but luckily the Crown of Dark Secrets enabled it for me. Identifying items by use seems more fun anyway. With Lore-Master, do you still get the XP bonus for "identifying" an item when you handle one you've never seen before?
-Majesty: very useful on the ascent, but seems ill-advised if you're going for the Morgoth kill.
-I'm inclined to agree with the mpa-sil decision that the "roll twice, take worse result" message you get for prying out the third Silmaril should be in the manual. Then again, maybe that would be considered a spoiler. The magnitude of the difficulty increase is a(n un?) pleasant surprise.
-One last point: enough people seem to be able to kill Morgoth that describing it as a "bug" is unwarranted.

Thanks again for the great game. Hopefully you'll see my name on the ladder again.

-Stacking poison resistance mostly isn't helpful - stacking resistances really only works against breath weapons, and the only really dangerous breath weapons are fire. You took a lot of poison damage from Carcharoth because he does a ton of damage. He's sort of the end-boss of the regular game.
-Momentum just lets you use more strength, so if your weapon is heavy enough you can already use all your strength it's pretty pointless. Sometimes your strength can get really high with potions and Charge though.
-Since you can only sing one song at a time, they pretty much have to be situational. That said, stealth characters can mostly always benefit from Silence, and deep in the dungeon you might want Slaying on most of the time.
-I took Wolf-Bane once in the middle of a losing fight against a wolf unique, but yeah, Raukar are the usual bane targets.
-There's an algorithm that tries to make forges appear semi-regularly. I think they're still tweaking it.
-Lore-Master gives you XP for items, yes.
-The "BUG: Morgoth has been killed in combat" message is intended as a joke, I think. That said, he could stand to be made even tougher. Maybe once he is brought to half-health he should become enraged and get +5 to all skills and an extra die of damage?
