Fooling the RNG worked! I choose 2 melee and suddenly I had a shortbow AND 40 arrows on -100 before I found a forge. At this run I wanted to try artifice. Made those gloves +2 attack, they are nice! Never found another forge after....

Bolrog dropped that nifty bow I'm using now! Werewolfbane! I like it. Also like the flaming arrows for those R airelementals who resist criticals. Sometimes I kill them with one shot! Lucky rolls.

Didn't really need more skills than what I have now so piled up some exp.

And that's why I'm dumping now, what should I do with it? I really don't know what I'm missing. Maybe Bane and Master-Hunter? Or Will and some resistances? Or smithing and make some nice arts like boots of greater speed?

You might either want to be a teensy bit sneakier or a lot more willy-er if you don't want to get entranced at range by dragons out of your LOS -- waking up after being bitten in two by a suddenly-adjacent D is really bad news for archers. (Nice 10 stealth with 0 pts invested, btw)

Listen and Concentration are both p.good perception abilities for archers, also. Even Keen Senses can help you start shooting things earlier, esp. as dark rooms increase in frequency.

On 12.12.2013 20:19 Arjen wrote:
Already took keen sense and yeah, it helps a lot increasing your sight. Sounds like a combo of perception and stealth will be it. Shooting asleep monsters is just great fun.

And I never read the concentration ability I guess, standing still and shooting increases your attack? Sounds perfect!

Just played around with a staff of warding... I laughed soo hard when I killed 7 cat warriors cowering behind it! :D It actually saved my life as I was with my back against a wall (secret door, but it does take at least a turn to find.) I'm going to collect those staves.

On 12.12.2013 20:58 debo wrote:
Warding is great for archers, as is song of elbereth if you can put enough song into it.

Careful with concentration if you end up taking song of sharpness or use piercing arrows -- if your arrows shoot through a dude and hit a dude behind him, I believe it resets your concentration bonus.

With 5 will I wouldn't count on using staves reliably, though. With a bit more will and possibly (GASP) channeling, you could probably use Majesty or Slumber staves with low fail rate, which would be pretty rad.

If you melt a Fean lamp, can you make a new one from the materials again?

Yes you can.

Personally I'd take Listen. It takes away the risk of turning a corner and finding yourself face-to-face with a Werewolf or other fast enemy.

On 13.12.2013 03:11 Arjen wrote:
I got a lot further, killing stuff very fast. Toggled the fire arrows off a long time ago as i was burning through my arrows way too fast. Didn't found new ones for a long time until I got a _oTreasures.

I don't really have a plan now, I expected to be dead at this point. But I managed to increase my stealth to 13 without skills put into it, my melee is also quiet nice.

But arrows were a serious problem, I even picked weaponsmith to create 48 (poison) arrows.

I'm now at the entrance of some big chamber pretty filled with nasty stuff. I guess I'll quaff some potions and hit them hard!

Got a Silmaril! At the entrence of the Iron Hall I figured that vanish might helps a lot staying out of a fight after shooting someone. And it did, whenever someone noticed everybody I ran and everybody became unaware again. I killed everything inside the Room except 2 unrelenting horrors and Morgoth. Those horrors just take too long to kill but are doable. Morgoth... couldn't scratch him at all. So, now I run!

Too bad my 4 charges mapping staff got burned.

Hm actually forgot to try Morgoth with flaming arrows...

And out, the way up was pretty easy as everything or didnt see me (95%) or ran (5%). I killed only a few monsters on the way back. Morgoth saw me 2 times when I just entered the level, so went back down and up. Had some fun with the orcs and rapid fire (checking it out). Rapid fire with !str and !dex works like a charm. ;) Plowed through them very fast. Carcharoth was actually dangerous as he was faster than me and my defense is just crap. Luckily I had a lot of those !miruvor, so I survived. Would be so stupid to die this far... I saw it happen.

Ow and look at those gloves I'm using ^^ Made them at -100 and never put them off, except to id other gloves.

It's a shame I never found a forge with those +9 smithing items.

If you managed to clear out the throne room, I'm pretty sure you probably could have killed V with Rapid Fire, !Quick, and flaming poison arrows (and maybe a bit more perception). You already had Concentration, and shooting around 2x(+30,4d10) plus crits!!!! is a lot of damage even with his protection. It's possible you would have needed to use piercing arrows. The trick is keeping those pesky unrelenting H out of the way I guess :)

Very well done!

On 13.12.2013 13:16 Arjen wrote:
Ow, I could? Shame, those unrelenting H were killable too, found one at -950 and after !quickness !dex he was dead. And a lot of shooting.

Next time Ill shoot him. Ow but I only had !Quickness in the Throne room, rest were found back up.
