Posted for posterity. My best attempt with flanking/dodging warrior build. Thought I had a character capable of reaching the end when the werewolves couldn't touch it. That is until the grotesques showed up near the stairs of every level of 800-850ft the @ visited. Near the end, I felt the character was not dealing out damage quickly enough when surrounded by hostiles and of course in hindsight, should have used healing potion up rather than conserve it.

You seem OK for damage. Your melee could stand to be higher, though.

You were doing ok for evasion but not so great for protection. All of your armor had evasion penalties but crap protection, which is a bad combo, you might almost have been better going naked :)

The battle axe would have definitely been a better bet against the drake. Fire-drakes are dangerous even with rF+ or rF++, but it's often possible to run from them and ensure you're fully prepared before fighting them.

I possibly would have put a bit more in melee and a bit less in evasion, just to do more damage faster (hit more often, and with finesse even big weapons can crit once or twice.)

Good run though!

Grotesques are bad, but two-handed charge with that mattock should have been enough to eventually get rid of them (provided you weren't under heavy fire when it happened).

... or just a strength potion or sharpness or knockback with enough strength (not necessary to kill the grotesque) or lots of light and positioning or even running around long distances (they are not following endlessly, I left behind grotesques with pacifists more than once). Too bad, looks strong.

I never keep -1, 1d1 boots and you didn't even need them.

@taptap: the stealth boots -> trying to avoid the attention of hostiles ganging up at 800-950ft. Burnt thru healing consumables dealing with the 2 cat lords and associates. At point of death d the pseudo-plan was to just dive to stay at 950ft and see if the char could pick up more a few more healing herbs/portions to prolong the inevitable horrible death on the 1000ft.
