First win after a couple dozen or so characters. I asked questions on what things did sometimes or asked for equipment recommendations every once in a while. My second character to make it past 400f, as my first character died on 950f when I was put in a situation I never encountered before (mutliple darkness creatures which consistently dealt half of my hp, not a fun engagement). Morgoth and friends were pretty scary to deal with until someone reminded me I had exchange places to deal with the final floor and it went a lot smoother.

I had an odd experience around 400f when Morgoth cornered me in a corridor. I pulled him to and planned to exchange places away only for him to earthquake and completely block me in with him. It was a very weird and scary situation. I eventually decided to pick up Eye for Detail and some perception to find a hidden door behind me. I hadn't ever needed a shovel before, and last game I was constantly low on arrow count so I wanted to not encounter that problem again.

Overall it was a fun time where I bowed things down a lot. I'm interested in exploring the smithing side of Sil, or maybe stealth instead.

Grats!! imo this was a pretty weird way to get your first win, but you pulled it off quite quickly.

Congrats!!

Is there a single server where you guys are playing online so that other people can watch? I'd love to a run there one day, if this is the case.

Nice character. I'm always pleased to see people exploring builds which aren't the ones which the community posting on the ladder seems to standardised at.

Interestingly you were pretty light on artefacts. This often happens for pacifist-type builds who don't get to kill much, but is more surprising here. I'm glad to see it didn't impede you much!

I'm not quite sure what to make of the fact that you got that far without ever needing a digger. We're generally happy with the idea that you may need to be able to dig deep down, but we try to signpost this by the appearance of rubble blocking corridors etc. It's definitely not a fun way to die if you just didn't realise that it could be a good idea.

Scatha: I think the reason for a lack of artefacts is due to how often sim was abandoning levels.

debo: there are a few people who termcast. Recently ##sil on irc.freenode.net has come into existance, where a few of us talk about crawl politics and complain about maprot and violet molds.

This character wasn't abandoning levels too often like my last one was, who had to constantly change levels because of a single pack of enemies in a weird position. I generally did get to explore most of a level before I considered it done and moved on with this character. I actually did find more artifacts than you may think, but I didn't use any of them. I remember finding Angrist and a few artifacts I don't remember the name of (some smithing item, a robe, leather armor, maybe some others). I also did lose a couple weapons to whip disarms, though the biggest loss was a Defender long sword which I used for the evasion.

Building the character was pretty fun, though I did avoid a couple skills because I didn't know how it interacted with archery. I think they worked, but I was already doing fine on attacks so I didn't get them in the end.

About digging, I had never needed to dig before really, and my arrow count was rather awful on my first good character. I decided to just not take a digging tool and go with an extra stack of arrows which I think was fine until that one awkward situation, since I got to actually enjoy bowing things to death instead of trying to preserve a tiny stack of 20-30 arrows throughout the deep depths.
