Another flanking / subtlety fighter.

Reasonably fast as well. I wonder about sprinting / crowd fighting next. I want both, but sprinting is probably better.

I'm impressed that you can rush to subtlety so fast and have it work for you. I'm guessing the extra/passive attacks from flanking give you more chances to strike at enemies -> increases odds of a good crit?

I usually have to switch to a heavier weapon from 400'-700' before my stabbiness really comes into its own, which means I generally don't take subtlety or assassination etc. until 800'-900'. At this point, roflstompage of my enemies is nigh :)

When I do a stabber character, I go for subtlety as soon as possible and then cruel blow immediately afterwards. Even without assassination bonuses, I still confuse things around 350'-400' often.

Yes certainly, but that's not the depth I have trouble with -- it's the 50% - 75% mark where I start to struggle :)

The idea is to make more whirlwind of death than assassin, I will take assassination for cruel blow. Flanking gives not only attack but +3 evasion via dodge this is what keeps this guy alive. But the damage output is in fact higher than that most other chars even if you just wield a lowly shortsword.

I should start worrying about Sulraukar though. And my light level. And resistances. And my lack of will.

Well... too confident again. Completely avoidable. Effective 35 evasion is apparently not enough.

Well, your evasion is set to -5 when you're entranced, so yeah lol

Nice run though!!

But well... is light weapon, high evasion possible in the throne room, when I got entranced even with clarity and 15 will or so last time? Or do you survive because the next hit is then always not by Glaurung or some equally heavy hitter but by some troll or so?

On 19.6.2013 19:50 debo wrote:
I've never done throne weapon with a light weapon and low stealth AND low will. I'm sure someone else will have better insight.

You weren't wearing anything with free action in this case, so you were more or less asking for it. With a grace potion and free action, you'd have an effective will of 24 against entrancement, which is a reasonably tough nut to crack.

Also, I don't care how stabby a character I build, if I find Saithnar I go whole hog with it lol. SO GOOD

The only other will-based thing that can screw you badly in the throne room is fear, and you can get around that with murky browns, herbs of rage, etc.

"throne weapon" lol CLEARLY I HAVE SWORDS ON THE BRAIN

Also with 35 evasion, riposte would have been SO GOOD

On 19.6.2013 20:31 taptap wrote:
Well, I knew something was missing :) - it was a stupid idea to drop the greaves of free action even for artefact boots and then to attack a dragon - and the whole thing only for a slightly improved Nargothrond weapon when I already had Saithnar. Lost track of priorities here. Clarity isn't exactly a substitute for free action.

I avoided taking riposte early on purpose - because it basically increases my damage output even more, but it was already more than enough I thought and to keep me cautious ... didn't work out so great.

Flanking / subtlety (and sprinting) is so great a combination, I am pretty confident now that I can make a winner with this combination, with Feanor and maybe afterwards with Beor. Next time I keep a shield against archers (Umuiyan nearly killed me) and remember the free action / will thing.

Well, I was going to do my next video series on a spear-stabber, but I think I might try this build instead if you're ok with that :)

PS I used to make that exact initial set of weapons with weaponsmith for my stabbers :)

Sure, I am ok with that. Nothing copyrighted here. (I intended to increase will towards the throne room.)

Why do you start with such high grace?

On 20.6.2013 01:07 taptap wrote:
Where else to put it? I don't really need strength apart from breaking free from webs (and I don't carry heavy armor anyway) and more dexterity is really expensive, I also like to be able to open doors / resist early drain effects. And it is an elf.

On 20.6.2013 01:15 debo wrote:
Hmmn. If you start with 2 strength, it should be easy to get to 4 str which would give you 1 effective str with rapid attack... I guess that's not a big diff from 0 str if you're using anything but a custom shortsword.

I started with 2 str and 3 gra and made a 2.7 lb bastard sword which i used 2-handed for the first 400', and I roflstomped everything with it. Flanking is off the hook. At 500' and still havent' taken subtlety, might do it soon tho. This is fun!

On 20.6.2013 01:15 debo wrote:
Also I'm at 500' with no body armor still lol

On 20.6.2013 11:30 taptap wrote:
I compute this in a completely different way. 1 STR + !STR = 4 STR which I can utilize with rapid attack, but w/ 4 STR + !STR I need rapid attack, momentum and a 2lb weapon (deathblade, galadriels sword) to really benefit from the incredible strength of 7 while playing a light weapon user. I build for efficiency when buffed up, not for normal use (it is deadly enough for everything but the throne room imo).

But you sure can build flanking/finesse builds without ultra-light weapons but spears, customized great spears and bastard swords as well. Then you are in a better position to switch when you find Saithnar or Anglachel etc. as well, but I am quite focused on making a one handed light weapon melee fighter for the throne room.
