My badly drained Naugrim. Intention was to play a smith, but likely I am both too slow to look around for forges deeper. Didn't even start with smithing kit. Should have put some points in will earlier.

Now a seriously strong melee character. Drain resolved, but no forges found. I guess I go with all the artefacts I found. Scathas lair and some other artefacts around here. Can't decide what to keep, but no obvious weapon for the throne room yet.

Valinor / Swan, Angrist / Azaghal / none (I can take out serpents, grotesques easy enough with the great axe), ...

Artistry start is nice, but how do I hate horror acid, it destroys everything. The helmet was +0, 1d3 once.

I'd certainly keep Angrist.

You have a lot of revelations, it would make sense to use them to find some forges.

Creeping horrors are slow, unless you get trapped you should be able to hit them and move back a space repeatedly, they won't hit you this way.

Sitting on a 3 use forge w/ close to 7k XP and wondering whether I should forget smithing. I already have artefacts for 4 armor slots (Fingon, Luthien, Finrod + 2 great shields), Angrist to get a Sil out in case I have to hurry. I would like to have a better axe although I am using mostly Glamdring right now, but investing in smithing looks like such a waste. I mean 7k = Song of Sharpness.

That you can knockback with light weapons looks wrong to me - knockback strength should be limited to weapon weight or so.

Decided against more smithing. Now standing next to sleeping Great Cold Drake and wonder whether I should attack. 5 evasion advantage isn't really enough to be sure not to be hit often, is it?

I'd worry less about the evasion and more about getting terrified/confused, 16 will or no 16 will. Is it on something particularly good, or do you just want the experience? If it's the latter, I don't really think it's worth it.

Also, I love the 5 light despite the shadow cloak :)

Ok, I bought Clarity to avoid confusion etc. I also took sharpness. I found yet another artefact shield, I keep Valinor / Hador and drop the shield of the swan. Still no obvious weapon / strategy for the throne room. My first time in the throne room with melee. I am terrified, want to have a shield but don't know how to do damage. I wonder whether I should take momentum and go with Glamdring.

On 16.6.2013 23:34 taptap wrote:
But if I go with Glamdring, I probably need rapid attack as well.

So either Momentum, Rapid Attack, Woven Theme (all quite expensive) or ??? Two-handed axe and pray. Hmm.

Rapid Attack is the way to go, especially if combined with Song of Sharpness.

Rapid Attack needs Subtlety or Opportunist, so I need 2 other abilities either way. Follow Through / Opportunist looks like the more useful way. 5000 XP for this alone.

Glamdring is an awkward weapon for momentum + subtlety. It's a difficult question, if I were playing this dwarf I would probably just go with the great axe and buff like crazy and use herbs of rage to crush everything.

If this is your first time in the throne room, I'd forget about the fancy abilities and trying to kill Morgoth, in which case you don't really need rapid attack.

A very viable strategy is to stand on the stairs, sing Slaying, pull a lot of monsters to you, and then just whirlwind them to death with a big weapon. Then you can switch to sharpness if necessary, but slaying alone should be enough to cause a lot of carnage.

If you go the Glamdring -> subtlety -> rapid attack route, you will need to sing sharpness for sure, or else I doubt you will be able to hurt anything.

Your life would be a lot easier if you had a clearly awesome artefact axe :)

Ho damn.

IMO it's worth taking momentum with Hurin so that you get 7 damage sides -- that is, if you don't go with Rapid Attack. But it looks like you're already trending in the direction of RA anyways :)

Watch out for Great Fire Dragons, as well as Glaurung, Smaug, Ancalagon, and of course, Scatha too.

The unique fire dragons move FAST and the fire breath is very nasty. You will need at least 2 Fire Resistance sources and !Quickness to safely fight them. Beware of this if you bump into them

On 17.6.2013 00:23 taptap wrote:
I almost killed Scatha before, fled from me. But yes - I had some problems even with the young ones earlier. Thank god I have some stealth, so I meet them sleeping usually. I only have Hador and potion as sources for resistance. So I guess I should just hurry in the throne room grab a Sil and get out.

Yes. Done it. So happy, my first melee winner.

Wasn't enough for kill - due to some mistakes and keeping a safe retreat - after repositioning he was almost healed. I got confused and entranced each once in the throne room. Tried Morgoth in the throne room (after taking the Sil) and on the ascent. Quite close. Without slaying bonus in the 2nd attempt I wasn't always hitting him - but got him down to 2 confidence.

In the throne room I dropped a feanorian lamp, buffed up and then started singing. Never left the anteroom (but probably this limited the slaying bonus) and I had some trouble to change sharpness minor theme to major theme (so only had 60% on him most of the time in the throne room), better on the ascent after I recollected some more potions.

!Quickness + !STR + !DEX +!CON + Song of Sharpness + !Voice + !Miruvor + Rapid Attack + Focused Attack + Concentration + your best weapon attack are your best friends for the Morgoth fight. :)

I didn't have concentration. I believe it would have been possible even without concentration by better placement (gathering more slaying bonus in the throne room, making repositioning in the middle of the fight unnecessary on the 2nd attempt). Once I run out of !STR I stopped trying.

It was much less crowded on the ascent than with my other winner. The single Sil makes the difference I guess.
