I have found tons of great stuff. I am most at home with high protection, and no, that is not a blocking protection... that would be 12-45, I think. If I can come across the fairly common 1d2 protection rings, 11-39, here I come! If I could find another forge, I need to add 1 pound to my helmet for 75, and another protection point.
Question: Is there any use to having an extra feanorian lamp? I've heard of others having an extra for some purpose.

I realize that I almost always had listen when very deep either as ability or by Curufin - with good ears you don't need light that much.

Yeah, I have to agree with taptap on the listen chiefly because you can never really get enough light to always be protected against darkness. I had a silmaril once and still got completely enveloped. This is maybe the first time I didn't get inner light. I should probably pump perception up if I'm going to rely on it though, but for now I usually see the asterisk.
Song of staying would be cool... but I doubt I'll break my 13-55 (blocking) record with this guy. That didn't work so well last time.

If I sang slaying+sharpness, I think I could win if I found or made a 3d5 4-5 lb weapon and took rapid attack, got the str point, made base melee +22 or so and maybe upped evasion a little. I'm tempted not to sing for thematic reasons. The whole time I've been playing, I feel like I'm in man-mode or something. Singing might ruin the mood. Without singing I couldn't do it.

I was still fighting him for many rounds when Glaurung showed up, killed Glaurung, and I was still fighting Gothmog. I have pulled off the throne room with much less before... I think for how I play, focusing on carnage as my main means of defense for the throne-room that is... my bare minimums would be 1 rage shroom, 1 quickness potion, 3 good heals, 1 con. That might not be enough, but those are required for me at the very least.

Are you hasted from potion? Those are essentials for me. I will go into further description, but it's really all about the song.
The ramp up of carnage from song of slaying hits ridiculous proportions once your song score hits about 13. It is a super overpowered ability. The first kill nets you +2, and because you get swarmed so quickly, and if you are killing quickly, it becomes +20 in no time flat. With grace potion, your sharpness is at song 12 as a minor theme, which is the score necessary to turn any weapon into a virtual Anglachel... it halves protection. I'm pretty sure I hit a few criticals with Calris, and it weighs 11 lbs. Without singing, I couldn't kill Morgy. In earlier editions, though I didn't get an official victory with it, I could charge+knockback to kill Morgy without song.
I know Psi, Debo, likely others can kill Morgy without singing, but if song gets nerfed... I'll have to go back to drawing board.
I don't know if this helps, and I didn't check your characters, but you don't seem like the type to sing... your characters are way more archetype warrior than even mine!
On 11.6.2013 23:27 debo wrote: I've never killed him without sharpness before (i either had it on my weapon or the song.) I also suck at this game lol, I'm quite sure you have many more wins than I do.
I've found sharpness, concentration, and rapid attack are enough to take him down with a big weapon user, provided I am buffed and I have good perception. Song of slaying makes it way easier.
Hugo, miruvor also restores voice if you can't afford the inventory space for !Voice.

On 12.6.2013 03:38 HallucinationMushroom wrote: I'f I'm understanding correctly, are you saying that sharpness is a guaranteed 50% protection reduction? It could be... I often play with misconceptions and bad data! From what I remember, I saw in the manual sometime back that song ability at 12 = 50% reduction, which usually isn't a problem since to get sharpness you've got 10 points in song already, plus your native grace. But, a woven theme is sung at -5 song ability.
Or are you talking about something else. Again, I'm often wrong. Never come to me for *actual* information. I play mostly from experience, intuition and alcohol.

I don't think this affected song of sharpness, though, so you still need the 12 for 50% effect or whatever. It's still useful even if you're knocking like 25% off the enemy's protection.
