Having a crack at Bron's max skill point investment challenge. I decided to try '9'. So far, it hasn't been too bad at all, even though I also tacked on ironman to the challenge. While I think this guy probably isn't going to make it, I feel like I learned from this experience that '9' is likely enough. If I live long enough, I'd like to purchase crit resistance, song of trees, dodging, sprinting, master hunter... not necessarily in that order. Of all things, I'm actually worried about starving to death. I might take mind over matter first, which would really irk me.

Currently debating which is better, +16, 9-26 or +15, 10-28. The dex ring also puts my melee at +14 instead of +13.

On 26.4.2013 18:41 clouded wrote:
I'd go with the +1 dex. You don't have any right now, but you'll want to make use of stealth and archery at some point, which it obviously helps with too.

There's is an interesting and notable difference in difficulty comparing 9/10/11 caps. With 11, you get two points of dex from stealth and archery, with 10 you get sharpness, but with 9 you get neither.

You should have called her '9 iron'. It's not too late.

Dammit Debo, that's perfect.

I just hate archery, but I think a 3,800 or so investment in stealth to get exchange places would increase my chance of surviving a-billionty fold. Before I nabbed archery points, I'd want to explore more abilities like listen, flanking, and bane perhaps, if it stacks with master hunter.

I was stuck between an oathwraih and a creeping horror earlier, which wrecked a few of my things. But, the biggest update is that I killed Turkano, who is no pushover. Not a bad lithmus test to check the power level of a 'skill 9' character. I did need 1 major heal, and I buffed up pretty hard for the fight... but I buff up for Turkano even when not ironman or other bizarre challenge.

Dang, I hate to leave this guy hanging for a few days, but I doubt I'm going to get a chance to play him again till Monday or so. This is fun, you guys should get in on it. Create a hole in the space-time fabric Debo to get around your new year's masochistic no gaming challenge and play!

Couldn't resist playing a little more. Anglachel! Exchange places! No consumables!

Haven't had a chance to play, but wanted to say that I adore this helmet. I love strength in adversity... it's awesome to imagine a character who's hurting to crank up their power level, and then on the edge of death finding even more extra strength and grace. It's great to utilize, but even more fun to roleplay, and absolutely perfect for this character, who has seen many death scrapes in the last 2000 turns since she found it. It saved my life on two occasions by cranking up my damage from 3d7 to 3d9, allowing me to strike the deathblows to nasty trolls and kemraukar. I've taked strength in adversity a few times before, but it's a shame that it gets put on a shelf since other, usually more necessary will abilities are taken, and it gets prohibitively expensive.

After thinking a bit about this challenge, I think the '9' is doable since I can still take heavy armor mastery. The biggest hurdle, for me, is that I can't put my native melee bonus higher, since I rely on getting out of fights quickly at this depth. I don't really have the time to push my melee ability higher with song and focus and concentration... I need a quick strike that ends the fight and I'm not finding that. The glyph of warding staff saved me a few times but I fear it's out now.

I consider exchange places a crutch ability. It's really too good. I needed it for my first few Sil victories, and couldn't imagine winning without it, but now I consider it too op... but op is what I need right now! For example, to get Anglachel, I had to wave through a SEA of pretty heavy hitting trolls, and all I did was exchange places over and over and over until I got to where I needed to be... essentially the corner of a vault. I never used cruel blow or crippling shot, but understand they got a nerf. Exchange places probably needs some nerfing... but until then I'm-a-using-it!

Okay, end wall of text.

I died with style! Check out Morgoth, Ancalagon, Ungoliant, Drauglin, Gorthaur and Glaurung. There might be more. I was wanting to pull Morgoth to the top, but I got surrounded by darkness, agh!!! I was forced to get the crown as fast as possible, and perished. I think if I had pulled Morgoth up, I could've cut the jewel out and made it out alive. A fun character. I made a save, so I'll try again and I'll post if I get a win. Anyway, a '9' is certainly doable. 8 is out of the question for me since I couldn't take heavy armor use.
