Well, it's been quite a while since I've gone exploring, and quite a while since I've gotten down into the Throne Room. There were a number of changes to Sil since I last posted a character. Finally made it down there and back in v1.1.1, nothing fancy this time.

Finding Belthronding is always nice, because it gives me a chance to shoot a few things on the way back. In retrospect, I should have taken Flaming Arrows rather than will/Majesty, maybe I could have killed Dagorhir.

The game is still quite fun, and even more challenging for this type of "explorer" character with the recent changes for v1.1.1 and before.

Thanks for the report, and well done on the character. Do you think the difficulty has swung too far? Not all the changes have made it harder for these builds, for example cats are one of the nastier threats and have lower Will than before, but the change to Vanish will certainly increase the challenge.

Yes, the fact that cats have lower Will is nice, and does make certain parts of the game much more survivable in some ways. I had to make a call in the Throne Room between trying to tiptoe past (with Exchange Places) Dagorhir, snow trolls, and Unmourned at the main stairs, or the cats surrounding the back stairs. I decided I'd try the cats (because the Unmourned, chiefly, might have caused issues, but Dagorhir is also problematic). That paid off nicely, because the cats aren't so deadly once this build gets up and running at full power. Which is good, because they previously were _deadly_ (even a Vilia or two were killed by cat assassins, and probably cat warriors as well).

Yes, the Vanish change definitely makes life more difficult. I had a lot of trouble in the 600'-650' region because either the ways forward were blocked by sleeping foes, or because I kept getting spotted and having to bail. With the change to Vanish, pursuers definitely give chase more persistently, with deadly results. I'm not sure if the change makes it "too hard"--what, after all, does "too hard" even mean in the Sil context? If there was a body counter on the record sheet, I'm sure for Vilia it would be in the dozens, if not over a hundred.

I do find that Stealth bonus equipment is pretty necessary to survive the mid-levels, where I still don't have enough points for all of the abilities and skills the character needs. This is especially true after the Vanish change. I have had Vilias live through to 750' or lower without bonuses to Stealth, but at that point one starts getting enough points to manually increase the skill.

Now that I'm back in form again, I think I will try with an Edain just to see how sensitive it is to stats. Probably pretty sensitive, but we'll see.

One other thing that was evident--Morgoth and certain other high-level beasties (e.g., Gorthaur, Carcharoth) have definitely gotten an upgrade. Even with really high song and a Potion of Grace, they gave me trouble. Morgoth seems to have much higher Will (to the point that he is difficult to put to sleep, even with stats that would once have had no issues), and some of the others have perhaps gotten increased Perception?

Of course, considering that the entire first page (and part of the second) on the ladder is full of people who killed Morgoth, he doesn't seem to be a problem for them...

Anyway, good stuff. Still love the game. In sum total, I think the changes have been for the better, though a little tweaking here and there might be in order.
