Decided to run a Naugrim Nogrod with a slightly weird stat allocation for the fun of it. I had one going strong at 500' before I got cute with a shadow mold and stupidly killed him. This one actually managed to find a second forge, and artistry is starting to kick in now.
The Gondolin axe was pretty much the best thing I could have hoped to find at the early depths, so that was very lucky.
The low grace is the hardest part of this so far... I think I've tripped every single trap that I've come across so far :)

I dunno how long this one will last. Usually stopping and restarting a game drastically increases my chances of instadying to a silly situation.
On 14.3.2013 17:07 debo wrote: Going to try for artifice with this guy. Had I known this in advance, I probably wouldn't have gone with this stat allocation, but even if I get a loremaster helm out of it, it will be worth it I think.
Not sure how I'll survive having such low perception, either. Traps are already _really_ bad.
Since I'm not going to be gunning for my usual loremaster ability at this stage, I tried to id as much of my stuff by use as possible, which left me with some drained stats. Still survivable, though, I think, and I'm sure I'll come across a !Con or !Gra soon enough. [File under 'famous last words'.]
On 15.3.2013 04:41 debo wrote: Still going, after surviving some major stat drains (-3 dex and -2 con at one point.) I somehow misplaced / destroyed the treasures staff I found earlier on, which is somewhat annoying, but I'm sure it would have been burnt up once I met my first baby d anyways :)

Also, I figured out what the drop inscription (!d) is :)

A fun diversion -- good to see I still remember the basics of how things work lol
On 15.3.2013 12:23 debo wrote: Will using a staff a freedom next to a chest open it?
On 15.3.2013 12:24 debo wrote: Also, I had 4 light radius and still couldn't see the spider... that seems a little more hardcore than I remember?
On 15.3.2013 12:25 debo wrote: Oh wait -- maybe I wielded Dagmor and then was immediately blinded. Should have drank !True Sight. He took me from 14HP to -3 in that last hit, I thought I had a bit more wiggle room.
On 15.3.2013 14:26 HallucinationMushroom@Yahoo.egg wrote: Freedom will unlock the chests, making them auto-success open. It's the main reason I carry them, unless I have godly perception. I want to say they disarm the traps too, but don't quote me on that. If it doesn't, it doesn't matter really, just don't open with low hp. One of the vaults in the game has something like, 3, 4, 5 chests... it's wonderful to pile them up in the middle of the vault and zap a staff of freedom and bam, floor litter.
On 15.3.2013 14:28 debo wrote: I wish I'd thought to try it -- I found 6 chests this game that I couldn't open, and one of them was a large steel. Might have helped -- at least just to ID the freedom staff!
On 15.3.2013 14:37 HallucinationMushroom@Yahoo.egg wrote: I started to mention that I don't think chests will ID the freedom staff. I think you will just hear a 'click'. Maybe something drastic has to happen to ID freedom, like blasting rubble away, or a door flying off the hinge. Meh, maybe it does ID... I'm travelling and can't play.
I understood your character better when he was wielding the nice batle axe. Dagmor? What's up with that? I rarely take charge, but a dwarf with a good axe would make a good arguement to take charge. My last dwarf used it, anyway.
Lol, I just remembered you write a lot of notes. That's some funny stuff.
On 15.3.2013 14:42 debo wrote: Dagmor shines -- I was trying to get my light radius up to 4 so that I could see the little fucker. I wasn't really thinking clearly, I should have stuck my shield on and wacked him in the face.
I might have considered charge with a great axe, but with 3 str and a 4 or 5lb axe it doesn't really make sense to me. Although I guess I could pair charge and momentum now -- hadn't really thought of that.
I find with Naugrim I really have to keep the abilities to the bare minimum until I get very deep and my melee and evasion are top-notch.
On 15.3.2013 14:46 HallucinationMushroom wrote: Yeah, I'm dwarf rusty. I haven't played a dwarf in quite a while. I forgot that you actually have to purchase momentum to get the double str thing... lol. I always take it so I forget that it's not an automatic purchase.
On 15.3.2013 18:25 manchu wrote: Yep. Shadow spiders way easier when you can see them. Sometimes a staff of light can boost background light enough that your own levels do enough. Your prot seems low but then I see the shield in your pack. Running a dwarf right now with charge and momentum. He's a killer. Won't be able to update til next week though.
