Less abilities = better skills, but it is a bit dull for now.

Dead at 450ft when I stupidly tried out an amulet and later a shadow blocked my escape route :(

If you know you're going for loremaster, there really isn't an amulet in the game that is worth wearing un-ID'ed before ~500' that won't auto-id, IMO.

Shadows are brutal at this depth because IIRC their attacks ignore armor, and they're hard to hit even when you can see them.

Just out of curiousity, why did you take the 2 will and 3 perception points?

Because bashing down doors is unstealthy and it really helps not to lose constitution every time you bump into a purple mold - maybe keen senses would do as well. The total investment there is only 900 points for both anyway and it isn't wasted.

I try not to take loremaster anymore (that is why I have d5, c6 or similar notes behind dropped/chest consumables that are safe to use). I want to benefit from the other abilities in the perception tree.

I would have gotten Sprinting by 450ft, because this would have helped you run away from the Shadow.

I wouldn't feel bad about taking a few more abilities than this. In particular your first ability in each tree is pretty cheap, so it's not too hard for it to provide more benefit/cost than a skill point. Or if there's a particularly effective ability you want to push for in a skill you want points in anyway, it's normally worth it.

You do probably get a good feel for the value of skills versus abilities by experimenting with builds like this one, though.
