Grotesques sure do a lot of damage. Yikes.

The noteworthy thing about Grotesques they attack only when not seen, especially in darkness...which probably happened when the Balrog showed up.

Actually, I think the Balrog showed up first. At least I saw it first, and when something started clawing me I assumed it was a horror (I suppose the grotesque is a horror, but not the usual sort) and tried to run away. But with such a huge shadow radius, I don't think I had any hope at that point. Should've worn Curufin (Listen shows grotesques pretty well) or ditched it because of the danger, but I only thought of that when I saw the dump. If I had known in advance I would be dealing with a grotesque in the dark it might've helped to take Song of Trees instead of dumping a point or two more into Melee.

It would be an evil surprise to have a Balrog with grotesques as an intentional entourage. It also makes me wonder about the possibilities of an intentional pair of (weaker) monsters, like Tevildo and Oikeroi, one of which would create darkness and the other would use it.

Just discovered in another game that Knock Back works on Grotesques, and they swap places with the monster behind. This might have possibilities...

Knock Back does work on Grotesques...and especially effective with a large dice weapons, like Greatswords...such as Glend.
