Character from Dec 27th who got Nogrod as a present.

Nogrod + Charge + Stun + Knockback + Critical Resistance + Crowd Fighting + high Melee = hardcore, and certainly a viable weapon if you have high STR and high Melee. 4d9 damage at the get-go, without Power/Charge, is scary in the early levels. In spite of the -4 Melee penalty, Nogrod took me pretty far and I even favored it over Glend, given its obviously high damage dice, throughout this game.

Along the way, I found:
a Set of Boots of Speed [+0,1d2] at 500ft
The Greatsword 'Glend' (-1,3d6) [+1] <+1> at 550ft
a Galvorn Armour of Stealth [+0,2d5] <+1> at 850ft

I had some frustration with the RNG here and there. At 400ft, I was holding onto a CON of 1, and in the nick of time, I found a !CON. At some point, I was stuck with a Battle Axe of Fury, and really wanted it off, as Nogrod and Glend were much more viable options. Right now at 950ft, I'm still frustrated because I want to ID these unknown Rings without getting Lore-master. Yeah, I'm too greedy here!

As requested earlier (with my 'Beltway' character), what abilities should I get for a fair chance at killing Morgoth?

I'd go Strength, Constitution, Stun, maybe Dexterity (from evasion), then Follow-through, Opportunist, Rapid Attack. Song of Slaying would provide a great way of buffing your melee in the throne room, since Concentration will not likely be an option for you, although your low grace makes that tricky.

I dunno if you'll need Sharpness, but if you do, woven themes and unwavering voice would let you do Slaying at the same time. I don't think you'll need sharpness against Morgy with Nogrod as your main, though, and that's a lot of XP to song.

I'd go for the stat points first, and the extra-attack abilities near the very end. You need melee to be astronmical past 800' if you want to hit anything with Nogrod :) Stun is helpful ASAP, even though I don't know the precise effect it has on enemies -- I'd assume it to be the same as what the player suffers (-2 across the board), but I have no real idea. :)

My 2 cents!

I might turn Knockback off for Morgoth, as knocking him away from you is probably the last thing you want to do (unless doing so tactically) -- I'd imagine it would be hard to keep your damage-per-turn high enough if you had to follow him around everywhere.

Game over. I didn't think it was an *Ancient* Amethyst serpent.
