More melee. Tried a few with the curse, difficult, the best one with Anglachel from start. But this one is doing far better, no curse and I just found Anguirel. I'm a bit slow as always of course, and armour could be better.

Some nice upgrades. Good CON. Anguirel really makes a difference against the serpents. Biggest danger right now is that it starts to feel easy. Must keep playing careful all the way down. And up.

On 26.12.2012 15:34 WildKhaine wrote:
Got some nice protection and con is good. The sharpness on Anguirel makes it a very nice weapon. Personally, I don't like the hunger on it. Had a few guys die of starvation and it sucks. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll have a good shot. Good luck.

Calris or not Calris?
I have been doing extremely well with a mithril long sword and anguirel as swap. Hardly ever needed to use buffs or healing. And they all go down. Never used Calris before.
Would you recommend using Calris already / in the throne room / or not at all?
I had to drop a nice greatsword of Nargothrond next to it to pick it up, that was my (unused) heavy weapon backup until now.

On 27.12.2012 14:02 WildKhaine wrote:
With your str, I'd probably advise against Calris. Won't get the full effect. You'd be better of sticking to what you are doing, going for crits and such. Anguirel might be a good option. Your longsword is nice, just slightly too underweight unfortunately. I'd go without the shield, grab Subtlety, Concentration, Rapid Attack, Cruel Blow and Slaying. Then you could just kill everything in the throne room, build up a nice bonus and go to town on Morgy. But that's just me.

On 27.12.2012 14:03 WildKhaine wrote:
Song of Sharpness and Woven themes too if you don't go with Anguirel. Kill stuff faster that way.

On 27.12.2012 14:17 WildKhaine wrote:
If you just want to grab a sil and run, your looking pretty good atm. I'd use Anguirel for the throne room unless you find something better. Should be able to knock the crown off and grab a Sil pretty fast with it.

On 27.12.2012 14:50 Thraalbeast wrote:
Thanks! I don't think subtlety will work with a bastard sword though.
After getting more xp and skills, my plan is to buff all stats and then take the the downstair and just start killing things (with rage and slaying). Is that a good idea with this build? I am however considering Mastery instead of slaying, or possibly both - but woven themes is going to be expensive (~5500 xp).

On 27.12.2012 14:54 WildKhaine wrote:
Yeah, if you used Subtlety you couldn't use Anguirel. Have to use the longsword you have now or find a better 2lbish weapon.

Sounds like a good idea. I usually buff up, rage, sing slaying/sharpness for the throne room. Sharpness isn't as important if you don't want to kill Morgy. Slaying'll help take out everything a bit faster. Never really used Mastery so can't say much about it.

On 27.12.2012 16:41 Thraalbeast wrote:
On my way up. Throne room was intense but with so much con, buffs and healing it was certainly exciting, but not too difficult. Anguirel is a very good weapon. To kill Morgoth would have taken a lot more effort though.

My best attempt so far died at 50 ft, just before the gates level, so I've seen most of it except the end.
What do I need to know about the exit? Don't mind advice, would really like to win this one. Been a long and slow game (calendar time) due to all the visiting relatives, but fun.

On 27.12.2012 16:56 WildKhaine wrote:
If you haven't seen the gates then save a charge on the _Rev. The level is always the same so just need to see it the first time. It's a bunch of rooms with lots of critters. The exit is all the way south and Carcharoth protects the way out. He's a bit of a pain if you don't have rPois but otherwise shouldn't be too hard.

Good game! Anguirel is definitely a great find for the throne room + ascent.

FYI, next time you find Aeglos, keep it as a throwing weapon -- the frost brand makes it an insanely good ranged alternative, esp. vs balrogs :)

Good deal! Now the victories will just roll in.

I was tempted to keep Aeglos but I was carrying so many buffs and did not want to drop anything just for one extra attack per fight.
But artifacts aside, I'm always very happy when I find light mitrhil swords, they tend to be quite useful. In this game I did not find an ideal one, but still it was good enough to swiftly kill Kemenraukos and Greater Werewolves etc those times when I forgot to swap to Anguirel or felt food was a bit scarce.
