I just found CALRIS. It seems fantastic but also heavy (brings me to slow) and my melee is already on the low side even with a +1 sword. I've been optimizing for many attacks and made good. But of course I do need to hit for more damage soon.

Calris + Aegon would give me Concentration which would help melee a bit.

Not sure where to go from here. I've only been to the throne room once with melee and that went badly after a large D put me in trance.

What advice do you have for the remaining part of the game?

It's the +12, 6-15 that would make me nervous if I had your character. It's not high evasion or high protection. If you are mainly a fighter I can't imagine this lasting too long with giants or some of the heavy hitting trolls or cat warriors. I could be wrong, I'm getting a bit rusty, but it makes me worry just looking at it. I would probably immediately go longsword+shield and decide whether to go high evasion or high protection until melee or melee & evasion took big upswings, but that is just me.

I agree with HM. I'd go with the longsword & Hador. With your low str, not really getting much benefit from a heavy weapon. Focus on getting your evasion and melee up a bit.

If you want to get your protection up, Heavy Armor Use might be helpful. Hardiness is good, plus you can also go for the Con pt from Will too. With ZoC, Crowd Fighting might be something to think about.

Thanks! Feels like it will be ages if ever before I can make full use of Calris, so I guess I'll ditch it now. Did not swing it even once. Then I'll boost melee and evasion for a while. Crowd fighting is on the wish list. If I don't find Poison resist very soon, I'll probably have to take it from the Will tree although it makes the other nice ones more expensive. Bad spiders and werewolves are becoming more common now.

I would definitely keep Calris for use against well-protected enemies. You're just not going to find another weapon with anything like the damage output (particularly against enemies which don't resist fire), and it has a very high damage even with low Strength.

Lol, when finally playing a character that scares the crap out of Kemenraukos and eager to get revenge for previous losses, I find out that pursuing and killing them is perhaps more an option for guys with a Mattock of Belegost in their pack than the ones with a shovel.
It went down superfast after ?stun + Nargothrond axe, but it managed to make an earthquake and now I'm trapped with granite, quartz and iron in all directions. Just a shovel and the usual stuff. *** Is there a way out of this? ***

You might want to try blowing that trumpet of thunder a few times -- if you make enough noise, another Kemenrauko might hear you and dig over to where you are.

I don't know if that's going to work if you're completely trapped by solid walls (don't 100% know how sound mechanics work), but it might be worth a shot.

If that doesn't seem to be working, you might want to take a few points in Song and grab Song of Slaying. I think that one makes a LOT of noise lol

Can you take a screenshot and upload it?

Thanks, I'll try that.

I've been in a similar situation and had to wait for something to chew the rock away. You can survive a long time with your current food stores. I survived this way one time, but it took so long my min depth killed me, and I notice you are already hurting time-wise. You can afford mind over matter, but I wouldn't use that until I was down to 1 regular food item. I don't know that this works, but if I was really an elf trapped down there, I would blast that horn of thunder over and over hoping that it would draw attention to myself. Worth trying, I guess, if boring.

Tried attracting diggers but now min depth is 1000' and starving has started to kick in. That's where I stop playing this character - very nearly lost in the mountain but with a very tiny tiny wee bit of hope left.
Still, I felt this was my best Melee so far so I'll try the same build next time with some minor variations perhaps.
