Check out the Artifacts I found, and some of the notes I made.

Why don't you get rid of all your elemental resist rings (including the one you're wearing) and use Hador or Helcaraxe/Orodreth as swaps?

You could swap in the damage ring at that point.

I personally don't find Regen that useful either, so I usually ditch those amulets as well.

I did some housekeeping with the Inventory since the last time....

Decided to destroy the following items:
Shortsword of Galadriel
-too light, too late for Finesse & Sublety

Amulet of Regeneration
-not that useful

Amulet of Preservation
-in favor of Blessed Realm, oddly enough

Great Helm of True Sight
-I'd have zero penalty to Evasion :)
-already have Brass Lantern of True Sight

Shovel
-in favor of Mattock

Potions of Elemental Resistance
-Because I'm too negligent with Fire Resistance, I might as well use the Rings +/- Orodreth instead

The Amulet of Tinfang Gelion
-Didn't have much use for this

Mail Corslet of Protection
-Galvorn Armor of Stealth <+3> beats this, no question

The final trips between 850ft and 950ft weren't so bad. I almost forgot to get Charge. Whew! I tried stocking up, but didn't obtain much (see below). I'm really low on stat potions. I encountered Ancalagon and took him out with 3x Fire Resistance. With an Evasion of 29, Vallach was a joke. Dude couldn't scratch me at all. I bounced him off the wall like a ping pong. I was supposed to meet Gorthaur at the Chambers of Thu. But, I might have left the level without paying attention. I made a 9lb Mattock at 950ft also. 9 lb is a good weight and not too heavy to handle.

My current consumables:
6 !Miruvor
8 !Healing
3 Herbs of Healing

8 !Quickness

3 !STR
2 !DEX
3 !CON

In spite of this, Stealth tactics will make up for lack of potions, as I can avoid danger much more easily. I favored getting another DEX (from Evasion) over STR, which I think is a good move.

After all this, I made the final descent, and made my way to the East Section without a single disturbance, meaning no tension, and nobody noticing me. I found a Pair of Boots of Softest Tread [+0,1d2] <+3>, a perfect complement to the Galvorn Armor of Stealth [+0,1d4] <+3>. A combination of these two pieces of armor of Stealth, relatively light armor, Stealth allocation, and extra DEX points, I managed get a Stealth of 23! This said, in the notes, I can enjoy the Throne Room v1.1 for once, and lurk and Vanish without trouble, as I wish. So, I am residing near Ungoliant, who is unwary of my guest appearance. At this point, I am taking a break, for now.

I hope you enjoyed reading the story.

*I'd rather have zero penalty to Evasion FROM the Helm of Brilliance :) Typo fixed*

Hmm, a Light Radius of 6, is almost like wearing Sil. Even Ungoliant's darkness is underwhelming right now.

So far, Buster Hugo didn't attempt getting the Sils out yet. :)

On 13.10.2012 09:11 HugoTheGreat2011 wrote:
*BIG Spoiler or interesting bug below (towards end)*

Continuing on... I wondered through the entire Throne Room and unlocked the doors. If anyone noticed me, I'd move out of sight (Vanish) and come back. I killed an isolated Ancient Amethyst Serpent to purposely break tension. I picked my fights with lots of monsters here and there. Even then, it was still hard for the monsters to notice me while my Stealth was 23. At one point, a Vampire or something stirred up Troll guards and 2 Unrelenting Horrors towards me. I realized that I was in trouble. So, drew in these guys in the NW section and fought them directly. As for the Unrelenting Horrors, I used Glend + Ring of Damage + Ring of Venom's End. Those two chumps took forever. Afterwards, I fought and killed 2 Great fire-drakes and Glaurang. At one point, I had those THREE breathing fire at once, triple whammy. Fortunately, I already had 3x Fire Resistance. I had to use a some Healing sources to stay alive. After this, I closed in on Morgoth in the NE section, killing his nearby comrades, without him noticing.

Eventually, it was just me and the big V. I knocked the Crown off in 2 hits, with Glend or so other heavy weapon. I lured him in the Western corridor, closed the doors on him, and he stayed there since!

Here's the fun part... *I'm not sure if this is a bug. But, this is interesting*
Now that I have access the Crown, guess what? I put on 2 Rings of STR to bring my STR to 7, picked that Crown up, BEFORE attempting to cut any Sils, carried it, and I was ABLE TO leave the Throne Room, without cutting any Sils out, not even the 1st one.

I guess the game counts ANY possession of the Sil, whether cut or still in the Crown, in order to let you leave the Throne Room. Interesting feature if you ask me. ;)

This is the first time I took the Crown and left the Throne Room before cutting a Sil.

Almost done.

Ascending wasn't too bad. I encountered Morgoth here and there, but was able to Vanish most of the time. At 300ft, I saw him going downstairs! He won't find me there!

More close calls...I got careless again with Fire Resistance. Almost got killed by an Ancient ruby serpent. I forgot they do more damage in v1.1. I just didn't wear the Rings of Frost at the time. (NOTE - I still have those Rings. I never lost or destroyed them). I survived an entrancement by Smaug at 150ft. I screwed around with the Great drakes a bit too much as well. I almost cost this character later on at 100ft with a Great fire-drake while I had 3x Fire Resistance. One fire breath then would do 13 damage, which was laughable in my eyes. But, not killing them in time and letting it breathe on me a few more times, bringing me down to 13 HP, was NOT. Anyway, Buster Hugo is still alive and going strong.

Now, I'm at 50ft. As mentioned in the notes, to kill or not to kill Morgoth, that is the question. My answer: Not this time.

I racked up 10,212 EXP on my ascent, and I have no idea what to spend them on.

I decided to destroy the folowing
Glamdring
-As you can see, I am too reliant on heavy weapons. With Glend, Melee 27 and Evasion 28, without Rings of DEX, is pretty good.

Helcaraxe
-I wanted to make room for a Cloak of Stealth [+1] <+3>. I favored the Cloak of Warmth over Helcaraxe for a couple of vague reasons: I was trying keep all Stealth items. I couldn't find reasons to destroy the other footwear.

I plan to kill Morgoth in my NEXT Stealth + hard hitting character.*

Fixing typo in the Sil notes.

Does anyone knows what happens if I leave that 'thing' behind before taking the final stairway out?

While I'm still pondering, I might go for Song of Lorien and Silence, and Woven Themes, though these are not even necessary for such a Stealth + Heavy Melee character .

The game just counts how many silmarils you have: it doesn't care if they are embedded in something. In fact, we intended carrying the crown to be a fairly standard option (it is difficult, but a plausible option for high strength characters who don't have sharpness or a good weapon for cutting out silmarils). I'm surprised more people don't try it. I suppose they have never encountered their hard weight limit before, so don't realise that the crown is just an ordinary 400 lb item.

Continued this character from October 2012 and finished the game with an interesting twist...

This means not taking Sils + losing Crown = Game shoots you to the rock bottom of the Sil Ladder

I wasn't expecting this, but amusing nonetheless.

"You returned empty handed" - I should have gotten a much better score making it the Gates, at least.

The same thing happened to Beren. Except he wasn't literally empty handed.
