Boy I've had this string of bad luck with this new non archery stealth build I'm working on. So I fell from 550 then I hit another trap and fell to 700ft. And then I hit another trap and fell to 750ft. I was able to avoid a shadow spider but I ran into a bunch of Cat Warriors in the open and no corridor in sight. I only had two healing potions. I did remember to quaff a quickness potion and I raged myself...but it wasn't enough. Maybe I focused on Stealth too soon? Who knows...

Oh damn, you got nabbed by cat warriors so fast. I would have gotten Eye for Detail, look for doors, and ascend back a few level, buff, and then come back.

How could I go up the stairs if I didn't know where they were? Also I wasn't near a corridor so I couldn't even take them on one at a time...

The easy to find out stair locations is by using _Revelations. The Eye of Details makes it easier to notice hidden doors, even in the open rooms (although it didn't happen here) as you're running from monsters.

Did you bump into the cat warriors accidentally or? Though you are wearing sort of heavy armour, you still had okay stealth, I'd have thought with stealth mode, sticking to walls or standing still you could have avoided them. That said cat warriors are still arguably the most dangerous thing for stealth characters it's no huge surprise getting shafted to their depth resulted in death.

I don't think that I bumped into them...I might have. The one bad thing about stealth mode..which I'm pretty sure I was using is that you are moving either slowly or just regular speed ...Cats are fast...and very deadly if you don't have a corridor. But archery is really good for snuffing them out. Too bad I'm trying to have a winner without archery : P
