Really fun game. This is my first win, but my third time encoutnering Morgoth. It was a very unusual run in that I found tons of crazy loot - a couple early forges, an artifact forge on 900ft, a huge vault on 800ft littered with artifacts and high-XP uniques, and, most notable, something like 800 total arrows during the course of the run. Normally, I'm feel extremely lucky if i can find a couple hundred during the course of a run down, and have to use flaming arrows quite sparingly. Not this time!

The fight with Morgoth was really tense, and left me nearly drained of arrows. At any rate, there's no way I woulda been able to do it at all without watching debo's youtube video on the throne room. After the fight however, things remained very tense. I had to fight Gorthaur and Glaurung without even using flaming arrows or rapid shot because I was down to only 20 arrows total. I was just *barely* able to cut the third simaril out by stacking +grace and +song and using the song of sharpness. The first few floors of the run up was extremely tense, since I felt like I couldn't fight anything, and there were a billion enemies running around unwary. I eventually lucked into a staff of treasures and was able to use that to replenish my arrow supply. Things got easy again after that.

Congratulations on the win, and thanks for the fun report. Your turn count on the way up speaks of your difficulties there! (I think of the order of 3,000 turns is typical for characters going smoothly.)

What happened to Belthronding? I would have thought it was ideal for you.

Would it? Its a bit heavy, isn't it? Or am I missing something? What with having millions of arrows for Flaming Arrows, I was primarily concerned with keeping stuff (especially Morgoth) crippled and at a range. I had been using a 1.4 lb shortbow of Doriath for awhile, swapping it out for the Nargothrond shortbow whenever an R or D rolled around, until I accidentally left it in the throne room (heh) after doing so much inventory switcherooing for the third silmaril.

Hey, nice! You have the best name on the ladder.

You're right, the extra weight is a bit of a disadvantage, but three extra sides on your damage dice can be a pretty big deal: if you're using poisoned, flaming arrows that ups your basic damage from 3d7 to 3d10. I don't think it would have made it too much harder to keep Morgoth slowed.

Keeping bows with the appropriate Slays on is a fair strategy, though.
